Went in for my 38 week appointment today and the little booger is still not head down so it looks like my c-section next week is a go! I'm feeling much better about it after talking with friends, coworkers, etc. and your comments have been helpful too!
One more random question: I can't eat anything after midnight the night before my early morning procedure. I keep joking with DH that I need to eat a fabulous meal but is there anything I should avoid? And, not that I'm obsessed with eating or anything (haha!), when will I feel up to eating in the hospital? When I had DD vaginally I went into labor late afternoon and had her early the next morning. Since I had skipped dinner I was starving for breakfast. Just wondering...
TIA!
Re: Anything to avoid eating night before c-section?
I also had an early morning c/s and I do not remember avioding certain things.
You will want to eat immediately, but you won't be able to. They let me drink little sips of water and I still threw up b/c I was drinking my sips too fast. My procedure was around 11 and I think I got to eat Jello around 8pm? It was the most delicious thing I ever ate!
I had some good Chinese food the night before mine. You won't be allowed anything but liquid/jello until you pass gas so eat something you love!
good luck!!
i sent you a PM!
i had an unplanned c/s, so no advice from my OB about what not to eat. it's strange reading that others were told not to eat until they passed gas, no one told me that at INOVA Alexandria. but i also had pretty craptastic care there too, so, not surprised.
like pps have said, avoid spicy foods and foods that take a long time to digest. i ate a lot of oatmeal when i was in labor and if i ever do it again, i'll have a supply of hard boiled eggs for the protein (though eggs can sometimes give you gas too!).?
make sure you get a hard "cough pillow" for use after your surgery. a friend who is a nurse at another hospital said they give them to all their c/s moms (INOVA didn't give me one). press it into your abdomen when you cough, laugh, use the bathroom for #2, etc. it helps with the feeling that your incision is about to burst, which many women experience.?
