February 2011 Moms

Induction is scheduled!

I am going in Monday night. They will give me cervidil and then pitocin in the morning. Unless LO comes before then she will be born on her due date :) I am so excited to meet this little girl and hold her in my arms!!! Good Luck to all the February mommies!

  • Good Luck!!  Hopefully LO comes naturally before then.  Can I ask why you're being induced before your due date??

I'll be induced at 41.5 weeks unless our little man comes soon!

  • I'm actually being induced on my due date. My docs will induce after 39 weeks for 2nd times mothers who already had a successful vaginal delivery.

It is a personal choice and I decided to be induced at 40 weeks if LO was not born yet. A good friend of mine lost her baby at 41 weeks and I attended his funeral during my pregnancy. They are not sure exactly what went wrong. This has a lot to do with my choice. I feel if she were induced at 39 or 40 weeks her son would be with us today. LIke I said, it's a personal thing but this is what's best for us.

Not to step into your conversation but I actually scheduled my induction yesterday for this coming Wednesday (two days before my EDD). My OB explained to me that, after 39 weeks, there's really no health benefit to either the mother or baby keep her in there. He went on to tell me that, generally speaking, babies stop growing after 39 weeks and live off of the "reserves" (I assume that means amniotic fluids, etc) until delivery so any time there's a case when a natural birth hasn't occured and the due date is passed, they want to closely monitor the baby for changes in fluid levels, etc. The way it was explained to me made me feel really comfortable with my decision. He seems to think that I'm at a very low risk for c-section if I go in for an induction and that everything will end up being great. Obviously, having her come naturally (and as a surprise) would be great but I have a lot of trust in my OB and don't have any hesistations at all about this induction.

That said, OP, good luck with yours! Very exciting to know that you're going to be meeting your little one so soon, isn't it?!?!?! :):):)
