VBAC

Cervical message???

I have posted about this before but here's a little back story.

This is baby #3. I had 1 pain-med free birth and 1 c/s. I really want this to be a VBAC! My dr is not opposed he just said we will have to wait and see how things progress on their own. He won't induce me at all. I have had a LEEP done so there could be scar tissue that could be an issue. Well Fast foward to my appt yesterday. I am dilated 1cm, but the nurse pract. that I saw said it seems like there is a tougher edge than normal (scar tissue?? she said "could be). If it doesn't go any farther bc of the scar tissue then I have to have another c/s. I go back next week so I HOPE there is progress and I can stop feeling defeated.

My question is this, when I posted before about the LEEP someone mentioned cervical message to break up the scar tissue. I can't find too much about it and wondering if anyone has words of wisdom :)

TIA!

Re: Cervical message???

  • I had scar tissue as a result of 2 LEEP's before my first labor. I ended up with a c-section, but during labor the nurse broke the scar tissue with her fingers--I went from 1 cm to 8 or something like that after she broke the scar. There is no reason you need to schedule another c-section. You may not dilate prior to going into labor, but once you're in labor the nurse or doctor should just be able to break the tissue to help you dilate. HTH!

  • Haven't been in that situation, but I was meaning to ask you if you have been using EPO at all?  I thought that was supposed to help break down scar tissue as well.

  • I haven't used the oil at all.  I am not even sure if the scar tissue will be an issue. I am just looking for thoughts on if it is an issue.

When I talked to my doctor he said they can manually open my cervix (there is some sort of tool they use) and with an epi it shouldn't be too painful. The only problem there is I am not really fond of the idea of a needle in my spine. I don't want an epi, I don't like feeling like I can't get up and walk if I want to.

Thanks ladies, I will look in to the oil a little more. :)
