Using Vicks on Babies?

Have any of you used Vicks on your babies? I'm kicking myself b/c I forgot to ask at Fletch's appt this AM at the pedi (Pediatric Assoc. of Alex). Anyone know if it's okay to use it to help reduce congestion at night?

I haven't used it, but I'm paranoid about overuse of drugs. Here's an article you may want to read about Vicks and infants.

I've used it on C in recent months, but I wouldn't use it on kids as little as yours. I also read somewhere to use it on their feet - I guess so that it doesn't harm their airways, like the link gtown gave mentioned.

Have you tried saline drops and humidifiers? Those are slightly helpful.

I saw that article too. I've also heard some moms say they use it, so I'm curious what other pedi's are saying. I'm going to call our pedi back now.

I tried it just on feet, because I kept reading that it helped with coughing (strange old wives tale)...I was desparate, so I put it on his feet only. Then I got all worried, found that article on the pp mentioned, never used it again, even on feet...and putting it on his feet didn't help us at all. I'll be interested to hear what your pedi says!

What about a more natural version for babies instead, like these? I looked into them for myself when PG.

We've never used the rub on DS, but our pediatrician recommended the Vicks Plug In when he's congested.

I've used a very thin layer of baby vicks. Just make sure to wash it off as soon as they wake up
