LO is having issues staying asleep. He sleeps for about 1/2 hour to 2 hrs at most. I don't mind this during the day, but at night its hard! He wimpers a lot during his sleep, so I feel that he isn't getting a good sleep. When he wakes up, he is fussy and restless and you can tell that he is over-tired, but he keeps waking himself up. I've tried the sleep sheep, swaddling him and even holding him. Sometimes I feel, that he just wants to be held, but I don't want him to get into this habit. Do you have any advice on how to get LO to stay asleep? Thanks for all the help ladies.
Re: LO Sleep Issues, Need Advice Please
Not to sound too negative/discouraging, but, newborns do not sleep through the night, they will wake themselves many, many times. What you're experiencing is completely normal, not a sleep issue. Babies do not know night from day nor do they have regular sleep schedules yet.
Consider yourself lucky if your baby sleeps better (as in 4-6 hour stretches) in another month or two, some babies don't sleep well for the entire first year.
Try taking your baby out in the sun for at least an hour every day. This is good for them to get Vit. D and it helps them start being more awake in the day, just a little. I do this with mine and she still sleeps a lot during the day, but at night she just sleeps. She wakes every 4 hours at night vs. the every 2 hour feedings in the day. (I also give her a bottle of EBM at night, 3oz)
Do you swaddle and rock?
Oh, and my sister went to BRU and bought a Sleep Sheep and swears by it. I'm off to google it myself, but she said her son would only sleep on her or the swing until she got the sleep sheep... and her son is the same age as your LO. Give it a try but keep the receipt.
Thanks for the tip on bringing him outside. I have taken him for a few walks and he is awake in the beginning and then falls asleep! I will try to keep him outside longer.
