XP: Im such a wuss :(

I am at my wits end with sleep and finally tonight I decided to do a modified CIO. I decided no more than 5 minutes at a time and I would go in, not pick her up but lay her back down and rub her tummy and then leave again for 5 minutes. Well after an hour and a half she is finally asleep and I just had my own CIO session. She barely even cried, but Im having such a hard time dealing.

  • I know you've been having such a difficult time with sleep and you tried everything else, so don't beat yourself up!

You did what was best for her and she wont even remember tonight :)

    Hugs!

  • Thanks Krystal. Nate's mom is going on and on about how important it is and it will be better on her in the long run, but I feel horrible. I don't think I can do it again. I feel like I just went against every instinct in my body. I don't mind her falling asleep on her own, but I can't let her cry again (even if it was only 5 minutes). Im going to try just sitting with her and rubbing her tummy, but not leaving again.

If it doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel right. Do what you feel is good for you. I know everyone always says that but it's important to remember. I think staying and rubbing her belly is a great idea if that's what comforts her. Eventually she will just need you to stand there. Then you can sit on the other side of the room. Then she will be able to do it herself without you nearby.

    (((hugs)))

  • At nearly 3yrs old, we still have to lay next to DD when she goes to sleep.  We can't leave her room or she will be up or throwing a major screaming fit.  I don't mind.... she's only this age for a little while and it won't always be like this.
