another carrier question

Ok so i have been trying to do a back carry with my cotton guaze and cannot get her to stay in play long enough to get her in there tight. I cannot afford a carrier so am thinking of making my own. Have any of you done this? If sooo.... Which carrier did you make to use for back carries? Also, do you have a site you used with instructions on how to make one. TIA I really want to wear this girl on my back!

Re: another carrier question

  • Do you sew?  There are tutorials for making a mei tai on the DIY forum of thebabywearer.com, but it's really not something that you'll want to tackle if you don't know what you're doing.

FWIW, I'd recommend continuing to try the wrap.  My DD took some time to get comfortable laying on my back while I wrapped her, but once I got faster and she realized that she was safe up there everything just clicked.

  • Thats where i am looking now. I sew a little, but my MIL loves sewing and these kinds of projects, so I was thinking of recruiting her to help me. I will keep trying with the wrap. I tried a tutorial that basically wraps her like a moby in front and then you kind of take your arms out of the straps and twist her to your back and then put the straps back on your shoulders, but i couldnt get the fabric back to where it needed to be if she arched her back... I kept thinking she would fall out.

  • This is the tutorial that I wanted to follow, until I remembered that I can't sew Crying

I'd be concerned about trying to switch her from front to back.  There's no way you'd have the wrap tight enough to be anywhere near comfy or secure and still be able to twist it around.

What carry are you trying and how are you trying to get her back there?  You could always try a carry that has a chest belt to help secure her at the beginning and give you more time to get everything else situated.  Something like this, though I wouldn't do the hip scoot like she does to get her on her back as it makes it hard to get LO high enough IMO.

I also found it easier at the beginning to be sitting on the edge of the bed and leaning forward, so that DD was always over the bed.   DH was a (reluctant) spotter, too.

  • love this tutorial. I think i was doing it wrong. I had it folded in half like youwould with a moby. You dont do that do you?
