Fixing BG 3.0s myself?

I have 4 BG 3.0s where the elastic has gone out.  I got them as a gift before DD was born so I don't have a receipt to send them back in somewhere to be reconditioned.  Has anyone fixed this on their own before?  I don't sew much at all.  I don't have a sewing machine so it would all have to be by hand.  I feel it should be pretty easy but I just want to get some reassurance before I ruin my favorite diapers.

Re: Fixing BG 3.0s myself?

  • I did and I did it by hand. It wasn't super pretty, but they worked perfectly fine afterwards. There are some tutorials out there, which use sewing machines. Maybe reading them will help you at least know where to start.

The first one took me an hour. After I figured out what I was doing, it only took me 20 minutes a diaper. I typically cut and sew things when I'm not happy with the way they are.  My biggest fear was not being able to resell, because of my not pretty job. I have since sold them and it wasn't a big loss.

  • Do you have the BG fix kit sold by Cottonbabies? It has instructions on how to replace the elastic (which if I recall correctly doesn't involve a sewing machine anyway).  Found a tutorial on it via google: https://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2009/02/bumgenius-redeemed.html so maybe that will help you
