Babies: 9 - 12 Months

does no period mean no ovulation?

This is such a stupid question but I am clueless.

I haven't had a period since Sept 2009. I am on the pill but does that mean I am not ovulating? I tried looking it up but I just get info on being pregnant (which I am not)

Is there a way to tell if I am?

TIA ladies!

Re: does no period mean no ovulation?

  • I have PCOS and would never get my period. My OB said that no period = no ovulation.

  • wow. I just asked this question 2 posts up.. strange..hahaha
  • I got pregnant with DS in October 2009 and my last period I had  before him was in June 2009. So from experience, it is totally possible to get pregnant without a period.

  • The point of being on a BCP is so you stop ovulating or so it controls your cervical mucus so the sperm won't meet the egg.. The pill (at least combination progesterone and estrogen) makes it so your ovaries don't release eggs. If you're just on a progesterone pill you can still ovulate but it's likely that your cervical mucus or other changes in your body will prevent the egg from being released.

Usually you have a period with the pill, unless you aren't taking the weeks placebo's?

I take all of the pills (Loestrin24) and before I got pregnant I ALWAYS had a period (sometimes 2 or 3 a month) so it's very strange to not have one! not that I am missing it by any means, LOL.

That's strange...it might be because of the low estrogen? I'm not sure, lol. But yeah, you definitely aren't ovulating if you're on the pill. I wouldn't worry.

You can get pregnant without a period, but it would be because you got lucky and got KU on your first cycle; if you hadn't had sex you would've had a period, if that makes sense.
