Can I drink tea w/in 7 hours of ER?

So I screwed up and I definitely should have set my alarm to wake up and eat something at 6 which was 8 hours before ER and the last time I  can eat.  I am already starving (though that might be psychological).  According to my instructions I can drink "clear" liquid up until 4 hours prior but it lists clear liquids as jello, broth, water, apple juice, and kool aid..... so do you think if I had a cup of green tea that would be ok?  I know it's not listed, but it is more clear than kool aid. I am still 6 hours prior to the ER so I feel like if I do it now and it isn't allowed, a cup of green tea can't have a bigger impact than if I had eaten a bagel and cream cheese an hour ago-- right?

  • They told me nothing after midnight. Good luck today!

  • I'm probably late here, but I had a surgery held up because of tea, so I'd say no.

  • My instructions were also nothing after midnight.  If you have directions that say clear liquids, I would stick to the list they have supplied.  You don't want any complications due to not having an empty tummy.

  • Well I was just going to go make it but after this I guess I will stick with the list.  But I am going to go buy some jello then!

  • My RE said no liquids or food after midnight and my ER was at 10am the next day.

I'm going to go against the grain here.  If your instructions are clear liquids only up until 4 hours before, green tea is okay.  The list they gave were examples not a full list.  I get similar lists for colonoscopies (which are done under twilight) and black or green tea without milk is fine.
  • I don't think it is on the list because of the caffeine.  I would avoid it only for that reason.
