give yourself time - they don't "need" to be on sippy cups until 12mo - and even then, it's not a huge deal if they aren't using them just yet. Don't rush things... it goes fast enough as it is. I was all about "the next step" with my first- and then with the twins realized there was no reason to push ahead- just take it as it comes and enjoy where they are.
as for sippy cups- every kid likes different ones- so no matter what people tell you are their favorites- your children might hate them. We went through a TON with my boys until finding ones they would use --- the twins hated the ones DS1 loved (nuby)... hated everything- and only would use the take and toss cups - the cheapest ones that we tried last of course.... after trying to get them to use cups for months. now they'll use anything, thankfully.
i would start around 10mo - giving them with water to play with a litlte... then around 11mo start swapping out one bottle with cups every few days until you can get them totally on cups.... hopefully around 12mo --- though, my twins were closer to 14mo before they were 100% cups.
My pedi recommended offering them a little water in a sippy with meals around 6 months. We've tried a lot of different brands and the munchkin with the soft spout seem to be the favorite around here!
We have the nuby soft spout ones. They get them every once in a while during meal time with some water. It is more just for exploration and to keep them occupied while I am making their meal.
my girls like the take and toss ones and thanks to them learning how to drink on them with the snack sized cup they can drink out of all sippy cups now!

I agree with this. I only started to introduced sippys around 10-11 months and because I was BF it took a while for them to even want to use it. As far as the straw goes I didn't even really "try" them with it, one day I offered them a drink of something and I was like "oh wow they can use a straw" LOL
The nuby was the one that worked out after all that we tried and once they got used to it we introduced others and now they will drink for any type of sippy

IMO, (I don't have babies at home yet) with experience with my nephews etc. the Playtex Spill Proof sippies are the only one's that are actually spill proof! They are a little hard to open and if you don't put them together correctly they will leak but it's not hard to figure out and they ROCK! They can get jammed upside down in your couch cushions (as has happened with my toddler nephews) and never, ever spill a drop! GL finding a good fit!

It seems like most straw ones are 12 months +
