There can be. There are a few different types of machines; one has crystals (like very fine grains of sand, and the other is a metal tip... both are used to refine your skin and have suction to remove dead skin cells.
The only big difference is the strength of the treatment that you would get at a Dr's office vs. a spa (unless it is a medical spa)
