asthma?

I haven't had asthma issues for about 10 years. Yesterday out of the blue a coughing fit turned into a full blown asthma attack resulting in a mad dash to urgent care and several breathing treatments just to be able to breath again. I left with a new prescription for an albuterol inhaler and a Medrol dose pack. They knew I was pregnant in urgent care but when I picked up the meds from the pharmacist he told me they're both class C drugs.

I know I need the inhaler so that's not up for debate, but has anyone had any experience with Medrol in pregnancy (namely the first tri)? I've been coughing for like 6 weeks but only now has it turned into an asthma issue. I've heard pregnancy can excasberate asthma but it really caught me off guard since it's been so long for me.

Any other experience with asthma and pregnancy? I am waiting for the OB to call me back in regards to the Medrol.

Re: asthma?

  • I can't help with the Medrol question but wanted to share that I have been having asthma issues too.  I have to use my albuterol way more often then usual.  It worries me that it is a Class C drug but I don't know what else to do.

  • Yes- pg can definitely make it worse.  Both my sister and I had albuterol on hand (sorry- no advice on Medrol) and our dr's said the same thing re Class C concerns "you need to breathe!"
