Hi! I currently live in Chicago, IL and my husband and I are moving to Minneapolis at the end of June, about 7.5 months into my pregnancy! We are currently thinking of living in SW Minneapolis, around the lakes, St. Louis Park, Edina, etc, depending on what we can afford....I am looking for some advice on realtors, places to look to live, OBs, etc.....And of course, looking to meet some new moms once I move there! Thanks!! Jodie
Re: Moving to Minneapolis...help!
Welcome. The areas you are looking to live are good - also suggest Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Hopkins, Plymouth.
I would rec OB Gyn West for an OB they have locations in EP, Minnetonka, and Chaska. They are well respected and the doctors are great.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Welcome! This local group does a lot of GTG's, feel free to come, even before you have your LO, to meet some new people! Here's my recommendations for you:
https://www.mspmag.com/ - is a good resource into what the Twin Cities has to offer you
Here's the name of our Realtor: Steve Casalenda 651-251-4800 or scasalenda@remax.net We were really happy with him
Lastly, I highly recommend Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility (OGI) they have offices in both Edina, and Maple Grove. All the doctors in the practice are great, but I highly recommend Dr. Lisa Baker - she is listed in the MSP guide as one of the top docs in the state. https://www.obgynmn.com/
Best wishes on your move, and congrats on your LO!

Welcome (soon) to MN
I have a link in my sig to all our GTG plus other fun events happening around town. You are always welcome to join us (even before you LO comes).
Welcome!!! I'm in Edina...LOVE living near the lakes for about a million reasons! Everything is so close! Edina also has the best school district for your tax dollars..but I may be biased having grown up there too. hehe! I have a good friend who lives in South West Mpls and also grew up in Edina. Her name is Stacy Glaser with Edina Realty and she is also a new mom and her number is 612-227-1982.
Also look into the comehome2edina.org foundation. It makes living in Edina a bit more affordable for those that qualify. I used the program to buy my home
Good Luck with everything!!!
DH and I live right south of the cities in Apple Valley. We love it hear. It's a newer area and you get a little more bang for your buck house wise as opposed to living closer to the city (we are about 15 minutes south of both Minneapolis and St Paul). We are right next to the zoo, there's a little water park with some slides and a lazy river nearby, there are great Early Childhood Family Education programs with baby classes (for parents and baby) and we are 15 minutes from 3 malls including the Mall of America and also the airport. (I really love Apple Valley!)
I went to Southdale OB / GYN. They are a practice and you don't get one speicific OB, but whoever is on call will deliver your baby. I've met with nearly all the OBs though and loved everyone of them.
Thank you all so much for your help and recommendations! I really appreciate it, as we don't know anyone or have any family in the Twin Cities area!
Best,
Jodie
Hi Jodie!
My DH and I just moved here this past month from Chicago! We are due with our first one on Aug 3, so I understand a lot of what you are going through! Also, we moved here blindly without knowing a soul...I'm happy to be as much help as possible, as I am feeling my way around the city also.
I found an OB at OBGYN West that I like, as pp already mentioned, I see Dr. Katie Toft.
I found the cheapest auto/home owners insurance through AAA - I can give you a contact there if need be.
Our realtor was assigned to us through our relo- he was knowledgable but I didn't "Love" him, so I think others may be a better referral source on that.
First of all, I think you'll find everyone here is super-friendly and very helpful! We lived downtown CHI but wanted to get back to suburban life and next month we will be closing on our home in Lakeville (near Apple Valley -south suburbs).
We originally looked at the SW suburb of Eden Prairie, up to Minnetonka - but lucked out in finding a home we liked that we could afford. Housing styles are different up here, very little use of brick, lots of vinyl, and honestly almost as expensive as suburban CHI. We briefly touched Maple Grove and Plymouth, again needed about $350k to get something we enjoyed. With that said, we looked at the Edina, Apple Valley, Lakeville areas (south suburbs). The further away from the city you go the nicer, newer, more home you can buy - it just depends on your budget and home preferences. We are on the Lakeville-Apple Valley border and super excited about the area - close to the Mpls Zoo, ski hill, parks and rec, lakes, outdoor aquatic park, etc.
E-mail me at lal9905@yahoo.com if you have any more specific questions.
Welcome and good luck!
I second this! She's at Clinic Sofia.
Southwest Mpls and the surrounding areas (Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, etc.) are pricier than South Mpls, St. Paul, Richfield, Bloomington, etc. And those areas are pricier than some of the further out suburbs. But, as a city girl, I really need to live within walking distance of things, near public transit, parks, and recreational activities.
We live in a "starter" neighborhood.....lots of smaller, affordable homes for families just starting out. I meet people all the time who know someone that lived in our neighborhood when they were newly married and starting a family. When DH and I moved here we used this website a lot to help us figure out where to look for homes, and where to avoid.
