Is there anyone with choleostasis? I'm being tested for it currently due to my severe itching, but was wondering what other people went through with diagnosis? Thanks!
I had it with my first son, and I have another round of testing on Thursday to determine my levels this time.
My body actually did pretty well at keeping my numbers steady. They steadily rose, but the goal the entire time was to get to 38. If we hit 38w, he got the boot! Every Monday I had a blood draw to see where I was, and Monday afternoon was always terrifying. But, I made it to 38w and I was induced at 38w1d. I had a healthy 7lb 6 oz baby boy. If I had been continuing at the same rate, I would have been induced 3 weeks later for ALT liver numbers. When I was induced, my numbers were 206. Normal is below 40. But, if you do have it, you WILL be induced. After 37 weeks, your body can literally skyrocket your numbers in a matter of hours. But, 38 is truly ideal for the munchkin. I had 3 blood tests between week 37 and 38 just to keep a close eye on it.
The itching is terrible. There is no way to stop it either - it's not like PUPPS where benadryl or anything will help. And while a good numbers of doctors will run the tests to be on the safe side with all unexplained itching, it is almost ALWAYS limited to the palms of the hand and feet. It can elevate with your numbers, and travel down your arms and up your legs, but that's usually not how it presents. I was the weirdest pregnant woman in the world - I wanted my husband to rub my feet just to PULL on my skin to help the itching!
It's scary, and it's serious, but it can be managed. As long as your doc is proactive, and keeps a close eye on you, you can still have a healthy and happy baby.
