Car seat question

I need to get a convertible car seat for my DC and I am not sure which one to get.  Can anyone recommend any resources to help me decide?

Also, does anyone have or know anything about the Britax Advocate?  I was just on the Britax website and it looks really safe, but I have never seen one in person.  What are the good/bad things about Britax convertible car seats, in general? Thanks for any help!

Re: Car seat question

  • Some great resources that I used were Baby Bargains if you haven't already read that for other baby purchases it has a section on convertible car seats. I also did lots of lurking and asking questions on www.car-seat.org You can read consumer reports but I sometimes take them with a grain of salt. All car seats meet the same safety standards so just because you get a cheaper seat or a seat that isn't as easy to use doesn't mean it isn't a safe seat. However I will also say the only safe seat is one that is installed correctly. You can have a $300 seat that is unsafe just as you can have a $40 seat that is safe KWIM?

Britax is very popular for being easy to use, easy to install, kind of like a Cadillac so to speak of car seats. They have made some nice improvements to the statistics of their seats lately in that they will last longer rear and forward facing. I don?t have any personal experience with a britax but many ladies here have Marathons and Roundabouts.

I personally chose the First Years True Fit Premier and I am very happy with my choice. I chose it for the ease of install, it can rear face until 35 lbs and has one of the highest shells on the market so even if DD is tall she should still be able to stay RFing that long. It will last forward facing until 65 lbs so I feel like I will get my moneys worth before having to decide on a booster type seat. It is cute and seems very comfy for DD to sit in so that is a bonus. There is a non premier version as well. The biggest difference is that ours has an anti rebound bar for RF'ing which I do like.

When DD is in my husband?s/mom?s/MIL's cars she rides in a Cosco Scenera which is highly recommended for an inexpensive seat. It is safe and does the job. I don't think it is as easy to install or strap her in though which is why I didn't want it in my car where she rides most of the time.

Hope some of this long winded comment is helpful. Deciding on a carseat is hard work ha ha
