VBAC

XP: Doctor dilemma... wwyd?

For my last pregnancy, I went with a group of midwives who were "overseen" by a group of doctors.  All were employed by the hospital where I gave birth.  Since I ended up with a c/s and the practice does not do VBAC and I never have looked for a new doctor yet, who should I call to tell I'm PG?  The old group?  Try somewhere new from the start this time?  Go to my old OB practice (not the midwives, obviously) just for the 1st appt. to give myself more time to find a new doctor?

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

  • I switched at 24w to a new practice, so it might be less stressful to just get the preliminary stuff out of the way with your old practice and find a new practice in the next couple of weeks after doing more research.  I waited until 24w to switch b/c my new hospital is about an hour away vs. 7 min. down the road and I wanted to make sure everything looked good during my 20w ultrasound just in case.  GL and congrats!

  • Go with the first practice for now. See the most involved midwife that you can and ask where she could send you for a VBAC. Meanwhile, research everything you can to pick the most VBAC friendly hospital and VBAC friendly practice.

  • Congratulations on your BFP!!  I remember that your DS, Henry, had craniosynostsosis, yes?  My son did too.  I think you were very supportive to me when we were preparing for my son's surgery.  I'm not a VBACer, but I was on this board posting a question about my sister and saw your post and had to say congratulations :)  I hope you get to deliver by VBAC if that's what you want!  H&H 9 months to you!

You have a great memory!  Yes, my son did have cranio.  Hope your son's recovery is still going well.  Congrats on your BFP as well!  :)

  • I just started out at a completely new practice.  I have some pretty bitter feelings toward my old OB, so I do not want to see her again.

I just started searching right away when I got my BFP.  And I went with the group of midwives that are affiliated with my PCP's office.  I figured if I met them and didn't like them, I'd find another to go to.  But after my first meeting with one of them, I was really happy.

  • I would start looking around and see if you can just get in with a new practice right away. You probably won't be seen for a few weeks anyway, right? Even if you don't call for a week or two, it probably wouldn't affect future appointments - I know that I didn't even get a BFP until 5 weeks with either pregnancy.

To me it just seems easier - a clean break. That's my personal preference though, you really can do either. I didn't even transfer to a new OB until I was 20 weeks with Charlie.

    Congrats BTW!

Thanks!  I only have a good memory because you and Erbear are the only bumpies I know with cranio babies :)  We're a small crowd!  DS is doing great - over a year post op.  You'd never know he had surgery!
