OK, the time has come. I have a year's worth of the girls' clothing that I need to sort, organize and sell. It's so overwhelming! But we need to get rid of it (cries) to make room for more. The thought of selling all those cute outfits for pennies on the dollar makes me sick.
I am thinking of taking the Baby Gap, Gymboree, Janie & Jack and Hanna Andersson to a consignment store and selling everything else at a garage sale. I am too lazy to go the Ebay route.
How do you do it? Anyone else having a hard time doing it for emotional reasons? ![]()
Re: how to sell clothing when lazy? ;)
I'm selling mine at my MoM's club consignment sale. If I wasn't in a MoM's club, I'd go to a consignment store. I'm not selling much yet, because we may not be done. I just have way too much clothes to keep.
If you can find another twin mom w/ girls a year younger than yours, you might be able to sell her a whole stack of clothes for a lump sum.
ebay is a lot of work- but with matching outfits - i like to have them go to another MoM so usually save them for ebay and sell in lots of the same size, same brand (if i have a lot of it)..... i do it a couple times a year - not often.
more often i bring things to consignment- the stuff that isn't matching.... and the stuff that isn't good enough brands I throw in a box for a garage sale - give to friends- or donate, depending on the mood
i'm guessing your girl's stuff is all matching- you will make a LOT more money selling it in lots on ebay (and post here if you list them) then at consignment -but, it is work.

My local MoM club has sales twice a year. I was able to sell a bunch of their newborn stuff and made $50+. I'm going through all of their 3-6 month clothing and pricing it to sell in March. It's not much work for what you can get out of it. Basically you price it (like new condition goes for about 30% of retail value), then the club takes 10% of your total sale profits to cover the cost of running the sale.
There's also similar sales in my area (munchkin mart and friend to friend sales) that work the same. Maybe there's something like this in your area?

your girls are always dressed so nicely - i'm sure if you wanted to sell a year's worth you could!! I know if i had girls due around the time of your girl's bday I'd LOVE to buy their stuff!
See if there is someone who just had girls would is interested on here!
I sent you a PM - tried to post that but the Bump is failing me today....
This is semi-lazy, but I am starting to take pictures of some of the nicer stuff, and posting pics on a new blog I created. I might link the blog addy to a Craigslist ad. PM me if anyone wants the link.
It'll probably take me a couple weeks to get everything up, though.

Kim, I would totally get your nanny to help. We often ask our nanny to go through the babies' clothes and sort & organize them by size. She could also take pictures for you.
As far as where to sell them, I haven't got a clue.
You are SO SMART!!!! Great idea! Thanks!

Depending on size/season, I might be interested in a lot of it.
If you decide to sell it, will you please send me pics?

Thanks!
Check back here next weekend. I am just starting to put stuff up. No pricing or anything. Just pictures. People can email me if they want to chat about something they see.

Last year I started taking pictures - thought I'd sell everything in a lot on CL. That was work with my old camera. Probably b/c I wanted everything to show really well - perfect lighting, etc.
Our local club should have their sale coming up in March (no firm date). Last 2 times it was at a church in PB. I sold a bunch of stuff at one sale, and made some money. As far as pp's suggestion of joining just to do sales. Dues are $35 or $40 I think, and you give 10% of your sales to the club. You have to bring your own table & set up. Oh, and people haggle with you once it opens to the public. It's hilarious.
I've ended up giving away more things than selling, but people give me things too so it works out.
You might make most money with least hassle on CL. There are so many twin moms around you!
a friend of mine uses thredup.com and loves it
I was thinking of selling lots of clothing on CL... I've sold Bumbos, miracle blankets.. things of that sort without having to ship clothes and make trips to the post office. My sister said she used to sell piles of clothing for a decent amount of money on CL... said people would go crazy over it. If I knew a seller who sold stuff in good condition, I would definitely keep in contact with them.
Just out of curiousity.. I only have 1 girl (boy/girl twins)... what sizes would you be trying to sell. My DD is mostly in 9 mths currently. If the size is correct... I maybe interested. I'll check out your blog.
