peas

does anyone else's 9.5 mo old have a lot of trouble eating peas?  i have tried peas (not pureed, just regular, steamed peas) a few times now and LO keeps gagging.  today, though, he was doing ok and then all of the sudden started to gag and threw up!  it was mostly saliva and peas.  but, still.  clearly, scary.  he is fine, not sick.  just wondering if i am jumping the gun on this food or if i just need to keep trying every once in a while to see if he is ok with them. thx!

Re: peas

  • I would maybe wait a week or two and try again.  Is he doing okay with other foods?  Do you think it's the size or just the taste?  With both peas and blueberries I squish them a little to pop the skin, just something else to try if you haven't.

  • It could be a texture thing. I pureed these for DD back when she was a baby and it was really hard to get them nice and smooth. The first time I made them, I didn't strain the skins and she didn't like them. The next time, I strained the skins and she was much more receptive. I don't remember at what age she started eating whole peas, but I think it was closer to 11 months or a year.

  • we pureed them first but I would maybe muddle them? just with a mortar and pestle or a fork lol see if a little smashed is easier for her to deal with.
