when you feed solids, does your baby

want to eat at every meal? i'm just wondering if they generally want to try food all the time once they start or if it's more of a gradual thing and sometimes they're not interested at all.

bay grabs at everything we eat or drink right now so i'm wondering if that will continue when she starts solids or if she won't be as into it.

thanks!

Re: when you feed solids, does your baby

  • For the first 2 weeks or so, Jude liked to play with food but had no interest in actually eating. He'd get it to his mouth, realize it had a taste/texture, and throw it down. During this time he was still grabbing at all our food and drinks, even though I knew he wouldn't really want it once he got it to his mouth. Then around 6.5 months he started to really enjoy eating. Now he eats anything I put in front of him, and he continues to grab for what we're eating. But at least now I know that the grabbing means he actually wants to eat it.

  • DS wants to eat almost any time I'm eating, so if the food is appropriate for him, I'll let him have some.  He still isn't getting a whole lot down, but he's loving the variety and being able to eat with mommy and daddy.

  • It's different for every baby.  My DS is almost 10 months and he is still not terribly interested in solids.  He will eat a little bit almost every time I try to feed him and will sometimes eat a little bit of my food. He really rarely eats more than maybe 10 bites and sometimes gets mad when I put him in his high chair.  His size is fine and he nurses well, so I try not to push it.  As long as there are no nutritional concerns, just go with the flow.
