I remember you asking about cleaning humidifiers. Well, I have one of the Crane humidifiers (the penguin one)--and I think I remembered that you did too (but another character)?
I hadn't used mine for a while due to the cleaning issue cuz I saw this black film inside and no matter what I couldn't reach it (not with my hands or with anything--the closest I got was with a bottle brush, but it still didn't get it all). But I did some research and I found a way to clean it really well!
The secret is lemon juice! I had this 2-pack of concentrate lemon juice bottles (it was like $3 for the HUGE 2-pack) that I bought from Costco a while ago and I literally dumped half of a bottle in the container (enough to cover the part with the black stuff) and I let it sit for 30 minutes. Then I swished it around for a minute and dumped it and it was all clear! The black stuff was all gone! I just had to rinse out the juice with water and the humidifier was good as new. Some people use bleach too but I wanted to go chemical-free since I didn't want LO to breathe any residual chemicals from the humidifier, so I was glad the lemon juice worked so well! So we're finally using the humidifier again after all this time! Maybe this will work for you too? Just thought I'd share
Re: ** vanilla15 **
Good to know! Unfortunately though, we just returned the frog humidifier this weekend. It just stopped working for us. I would fill it with water, but the vapor wouldn't come out. Then when I would lift the tank, all of the vapor would be trapped in between the tank and the base. I don't know...maybe it was operator error or maybe it was just a lemon.
So I am on the hunt for a new humidifer, hopefully one I will have better luck with. And I will definitely remember the lemon juice trick (which totally makes sense...i bet vinegar would work too!)
You know what, you reminded me...after I researched on how to clean it, it WAS actually vinegar and not lemon. But I substituted for lemon (I think people use vinegar because it's cheaper?) because I preferred the smell of lemon. Since both are very acidic, I figured it would work also and I'm glad it did! Good luck on your search for another humidifier!
