I know I have not posted here...sorry. I had severe preeclampsia my first pregnancy and lost my daughter at 22 weeks pregnant due to having to be induced. I did not get preeclampsia at all my pregnancy with DS #1. I was told because of the severity of it the first time around, I was at a very high risk of it occuring again.
I am 24 weeks into my DS #2's pregnancy and so far no preeclampsia. I am being treated for a blood clotting disorder though- which is suspected to have been the cause of the preeclampsia...so this could be why it has not occured again.
Do you have any underlying conditions which could have been the cause of your preeclampsia? They didn't discover my blood clotting disorder until after I had preeclampsia.
Good luck, I hope things work out for you.

What blood clotting disorder do you have? My blood clotting disorder was not discovered until after I had pre-eclampsia (very mild) as well.
It presented earlier and more severe the second time around. However it's hard to sort out where the chronic hypertension/PIH begins and the pre-e begins. I'm in the small percentage of people that don't spill protein. With DS #1 I went on bedrest at 32 weeks, delivered at 36 weeks due to HBP and IUGR. I was diagnosed with post-partum pre-e.
With DS#2 I was already dealing with the rising BP but at 34 weeks is when I had marked weight gain, swelling and even higher BPs. I was sent to the hospital to begin immediate induction. The next day, during delivery I had a seizure despite being on the magnesium. Probably, looking back, the pre-e set in at 33 weeks given the onset of my symptoms.
My MFM said we would be dealing with more of the same on a third pregnancy but that it wasn't anything that couldn't be handled. So we are considering a third. It will be interesting to see what happens if we do.
With DD my pre-e started during 25th week and I was delivered at exactly 27 weeks, but this pregnancy so far I've been stable. My BP has definitely been creeping up since start of 3rd tri, but still no protein spill or other symptoms, though my Dr has done two sets of PIH labs for baselines. Actually had some really high BP readings just this morning and almost called my Dr, but a little while later it was down again, so watching and waiting... since I'm so much further than with my first, though, I am trying not to worry too much about the possibility of later onset pre-e.
SarahTx5701:
I am still on high alert for Post partum pre-e though and have been back to L&D once for super high BP and headaches. But my labs came back normal.
4 more weeks and I'll be in the clear!
SarahTx5701, how many weeks total has your Dr said to watch for postpartum pre-e? I just asked my Dr this last week and he said a week and I'd be fine, but he is very uninformed about pre-e and it sounds like you have been told something much different.

6 weeks postpartum is usually the timeframe that you want to watch for postpartum pre-e. Research shows that it typically can present 48 hours after delivery however there is still that 6 week window postpartum to watch for.
I was officially diagnosed at 38weeks with DS and was induced that day. However, our growth u/s that day indicated no growth in 2 weeks so the Dr suspects it came on somewhere between 36-38 weeks. I had been on BP meds since 24 weeks though, so I think that helped for a while.
So far in this pg, no problems yet. I remained on BP meds after DS and have only had to up my dosage 1x so far this pregnancy. I was told that since I had late onset my 1st pg there is a good chance I may be able to avoid Pre-e altogether this time around. They are just closely watching my BP and did a baseline at the start of pregnancy as well.
So far, no pre-e symptoms yet, but I'm only 20 weeks now. My pre-e last time presented at 28 weeks, but developed into HELLP the night before my delivery at 36 weeks. I also have a blood clotting disorder (MTHFR) that was not diagnosed until after DS #1 was born. This time they have me on folgard, which seems to be helping. My BP is lower now than it was at this same time my last pregnancy. I did have PIH starting at 20 weeks. I'm hoping that everything they have been doing might help keep the pre-e from reoccurring!

nope!
I was on bedrest for 12 weeks due to a placental abruption though and the doctors believe the bedrest saved me from the pre-e.
