My wrap arrived today!!! (now w/ PIP)

I will have to take some pictures tomorrow... but I am really happy with the color... it is currently braided and I am sitting on it as much as I can stand.

It says I can wash and dry it on medium heat and delicate settings, but that I am better off handwashing it... should I put it through the wash to help soften it? Any advise for keeping it safe? I have some lingerie bags I bought for the baby clothes, it might fit in one...

It is this one if you didn't see it before... https://www.chimparoo.ca/en/produitsTissee.asp... Iris

Edited for pics...

  • Ooh. I like the Jazz. A lingerie bag will help keep it from getting tangled. Definitely always wash fabrics when they're new. To soften it, yes, but mainly to get rid of potential bedbugs. 45 min high heat in the dryer. Yay for fluffy mail! Can't wait to see pics.

  • SAC - You don't think 45min high heat would shrink it?  I genuinely don't know.  I totally get where you're coming from, but I'd personally be a little scared to do that with a cotton wrap.

Given that it is 100% cotton I wouldn't worry about handwashing or anything crazy like that, though.  I just toss all of mine directly in the washer on cold (that's how I wash everything..) and low heat dry with dryer balls, tennis balls, or sneakers wrapped in socks to soften it up a bit.

  • No heat! Unless you want it to shrink. I always hand wash in the tub, washer to rinse, and hang dry with a quick 10 minute low heat spin in the dryer to fluff it up a little bit :)

  •  I think I am okay with a little bit of shrinking... it is built in for it to shrink at first? And it does seem pretty long!! I dry everything on medium heat with dryer balls, since my cold seems to be pretty much useless... unless I want to run the dryer for 4 days!

Into the lingerie bag it goes... I think for future washings I will follow Kwinters pattern a little closer, since it seems to be less hard on the wrap... but my hands can't imagine handwashing anything at the moment (oh the swelling!!)

I will try to take a picture when it comes out of the dryer!

I feel like I need to practice wrapping before LO gets here, but my belly is huge and I feel like it won't work right... what do you think, better to get some of the motions and rhythym down? Again, it is a lot of fabric (size 6).

Yes, you're totally right, it would shrink. I'm just neurotic about bed bugs. They nailed down that the original outbreaks came from fabric being shipped in from overseas- and it didn't matter if it was a clean factory or a sweatshop, they found bed bugs both places. However, yes. You & Kwinters are absolutely right about shrinking. I washed & dried my Julie on high and she looked alright but I'm not sure off the top of my head if she's 100% cotton. OP, it's your call on the heat. I am a bit of a germophobe, so take that into account when you decide Wink

This!  Except we have a handwash cycle on the washing machine that I use.  And I hang dry it over the shower bar overnight, it usually dries faster than that though. :)

  • Thanks all! It actually came from Quebec, so very little chance of bedbugs...

And it is in the dryer now... I will certainly stick to hang drying from now on...

    Steam ironing next?

When you lie on it/ sleep with it/ etc, do you just crumple it up?

And basically twisting and braiding will help as well?
