Okay so I'm wondering if anyone else find the following annoying or if it is just my pregnancy short fuse kicking in.
If I'm joking around about something saying that I'm going to get on my motorcycle and ride out of town or that I'm ready to have a pretend cage match with my annoying co-worker, my father's fiance says,"You better not hurt my grandbaby!" With all seriousness in her voice, I get really pissed off. It's like she's taking ownership of MY child and insinuating that I would put my baby in harms way. This is really pissing me off today for some reason. And no kidding, I am clearly laughing and joking when I've said these things.
Anyone else experiencing this with MIL, mothers, step mothers, etc and getting annoyed?
Re: Does this annoy you too?
DH and my mom have said stuff like this, but only jokingly.
I think I would be creeped out if they were completely serious.
I'm going to have to remember that one!
when i was pregnant with ds, my sil told me that the baby was the family's, not mine. dh told me to get in the car and lock the doors.
things have definitely calmed down in that department now that she has a grandbaby of her own.
My step-dad keeps reffering to the baby as James Harrison - which is what they would have named by little brother, had I ever had one. It is a fine name, but we are far from deciding what will name our baby IF the baby is even a boy. And when we do decide it will be our choice, not his!
Good for you! Perhaps I'll say something along the lines of, "Do you really think I'd endanger MY child? Gotta learn to take a joke with this side of the family."
Thanks Ladies! Glad to know I'm not the only one annoyed and experiencing this! I really appreciate the support of the September Mama's!
KICK HIM IN THE FACE!
That is so funny. My choice phrase this week has been "Punch in the throat". If you don't mind, I'm totally going to use kick in the face next week!
I can't stand the word Grandbaby either.
by all means- what's mine is yours
I'll be adding "punch in the throat" to my list of phrases.
Ah, "throat punch" - one of my favorite phrases
And yes, I find it terribly bothersome when people how I am feeling and when I mention nauseous and sometimes struggling to eat they respond with "well, make sure to feed our baby!" Um yeah, sure.
Ugh, yes! Sometimes it's cute when my mom looks at a baby and says, "Oh, my grandson/daughter will look like that."
Then other times, she tries to force baby names on me that she never got to use (as it is only myself and my brother), while critiquing the names FI and I have picked out. So irritating. That, combined with the unwanted medical advice and overly cautious mom-isms are enough to make me want to pull my hair out.
I'm totally with you on this one!
