Ugh. Sick and approaching due date

So I caught this bug that has been floating around my friends and family for the past two weeks. It's one of those ones where you get pretty much the works (Head-cold, fever, runny nose, hacking cough, aches, chills, upset stomach), and it's unfortunately not seeming like a 24-hour thing...my dad's had it for a week-and-a-half.

I'm terrified of going into labor in this condition. I'm scared that I won't have the energy to follow-through with my hoped-for natural birth and that my body won't function as well while it's trying to fight off the sickness. Most of all though, I'm so scared I'll pass it on to my poor baby. All I can do all day is imagine a teeny little newborn with the same hacking cough I have and it makes me just want to cry. It feels so unfair to give her such a rough start.

Sh*t. Now I am crying. Okay, vent over.

Re: Ugh. Sick and approaching due date

  • I'm doing the same thing right now. But I've had it almost two weeks. I went and got antibiotics - so glad I did. But now DD has it and DH says he's starting to get a sore throat.

Being full term is more that uncomfortable - sometimes miserable. But being sick on top of it. Yucky!

  • The only consolation I can give you is that your breastmilk contains your immunities, so if you breastfeed then your baby will not catch what you get. I do hope you don't go into labor with your bug though, it would be tough. The only perk might be that they can give you medications to help you feel better through your IV so you can handle labor. Maybe, if you hadn't already planned, you should consider an epidural just so you can get some good rest before having to push out a baby.
