I voted for woven. I knew I wanted to BW & bought a Moby while I was pregnant. I used it with E a few times, but he was a big boy & gained a lot of weight quickly, so that wasn't comfortable for long. Then I bought an Ergo, which was nice, but I wasn't in love with it. Then I got a ringsling and a stiff neck (obviously I wasn't doing it right). I was sure this BWing thing wasn't going to happen for me & I was really disappointed.
Then I got a woven and it was love at first wrap. Ok, so not first wrap because of the learning curve. But I could tell right away that I had found my preferred way of wearing my baby. Interrestingly, after I got better at wrapping & got used to it, I went back to my ring sling & found the RS love. Now RS's & wovens are my two favorite ways to wear my baby.
I got a Moby when DS was about 8 weeks old. I wanted one earlier but just didn't get around to getting one. I really only used it a few times. For whatever reason. I just never felt secure.
When DS was 6 months old, I researched and decided I really wanted to try an Ergo or Beco. Since BBB had Ergos and I could use a coupon, that was my route. A month later, I went back to work (I was off over the summer). It was still beautiful weather so I wanted to take walks when I got home but I felt like I was wasting 45-60 minutes of my precious little time with DS by pushing him around in a stroller. I broke out the Ergo and it was pure heaven. DS and I got snuggle time while we enjoyed the sights and the fresh air. We didn't stop walking until it was freezing cold and DH was pitching a fit. I think about those walks every time I take out the Ergo and I am so thankful I bit the bullet and spent the money. Now I use Ergo, MTs, RSs and recently sold my woven .
I wore my nephews in a Moby that my wife bought for her sister and loved it.
There are great pictures of me wearing them, ranging from drinking a beer while my nephew is passed out on me to a series of 4 pictures where he goes from unsure to screaming to asleep.
I started with a homemade, poorly designed, not very safe ringsling. I loved the idea of it, but realized that it was not an ideal carrier.
Then, I thought and thought and thought and finally decided to get a stretchy wrap, so I ordered it online. I wanted it for a three week trip I was going on with DD by myself. It didn't arrive on time, so, on my way to the airport, I stopped at this baby store to try to pick out a carrier, expecting to buy an Ergo. They were closed that day.
So, when I was in Minnesota, I wandered into a baby store and had the most amazing salesperson. I tried an Ergo and was so unhappy with how it felt and looked. It just wasn't comfy for me. Then I tried a BH. I LOVED it immediately. DD got snot on it immediately, so I'm glad that I loved it because I felt pretty obligated to buy it, at that point.
A while later, I went to a babywearing workshop and discovered wovens. Now, those are my favorites.
Along the way, I have acquired a better ring sling and a pocket sling, so I have a lot of variety. I intend to buy a few more wovens before all is said and done, though...
Re: CP: What carrier turned you into a BWer?
