BWing a toddler?

What kind of wrap/carrier do you use for your toddlers? I haven't BW since DD was 11 months, and that was in the Moby. I really miss it, and she's not a big fan of the stroller or the shopping cart. She's too heavy to wear in the Moby now (27 lbs). I'd like to do a back carry, but being a SAHM, it's hard to get the wrap right with just myself doing the wrapping.

Any recommendations that aren't too expensive?

TIA!

  • There are lots of options!  I use woven wraps (which you need for back carries) or mei tais.  SSC/buckle carriers are another option - the Boba SSC is actually on Zulily for cheap today.  The babyhawk oh snap is another easy to find SSC.  For Mei tais, most people like a padded waist with toddlers.  But the Kozy is a cheaper easy to find option that will still work for a toddler.

My siggy link has lots of info on carrier types ;-)

  • I wore DD in the Ergo very regularly until she was 3 and then every so often between 3 and 4 (if she was really exhausted on a hike we'd haul her out of the woods).  She's not 40 lbs. yet (she's almost 5) and I could still carry her on my back if I had to.

The Ergo looks like it would be the most comfortable on me :) Where do you find them secondhand?

  • I started wearing DD in a Boba SSC when she was 16 months. She is now 2 and we still use it. Scroll down a bit, there is a great sale on them today on zulilly.com .I would snap one up at that price. They are very similar to Ergos but, IMO, accomodate longer los better.

  • Not to pimp my blog here but I'm going to right now because I just wrote a piece on revisiting the ring sling with a toddler.  Ring slings are generally pretty inexpensive (mine was $25) and it worked great with my 23# boy.

  • A woven for sure would be great especially if you like the wrapping aspect of the Moby.

I also have an Ergo which Iove for quick trips out or the grocery store or hikes.  So much more supportive than the dreaded Bjorn- I don't hurt at all carrying my 24 lb toddler for hours.

I got my previously-owned Ergo from thebabywearer.com. I would check that out for sure. And as others have mentioned, the Boba on a deep discount on zulily!
