Let me start by saying I'm brand new here but I'm usually on the preemie/local boards.
I'm just shocked at how many girls are on this board. I'm shocked at how many people are going through what I have gone through, worse in some instances. It makes me really sad.
But I'm also happy to see that many of you have cerclages and I see some successes too.
T&P to everyone here!!!
Re: Can I be totally honest here?
It really is horrible
I thought IC was a 1% thing...seems like much more. I hear left and right of women with this problem.
March of dimes said that premature birth is up by 30 something percent these days. I just don't get it. Then again maybe it's because medical advances have kept babies alive that may have not even made it to a premature birth in past days? Who knows.

I know! 1% doesn't sound like much but if I think about it in terms of 1 in 100? That's a LOT! Way too many.
Not to mention all of the other things that can happen during a pregnancy - - I don't know the % of pre-E causing premature birth, but pre-E seems to be so common too! Add all those things up and the stats are nuts.
I often wonder about that too.
having WAY too much time on my hands I read about pre-e last night. It said that about 10% of pregnant women get it (more common in the first pregnancy)
BLOG
WTF!!! 10%?! BAh. It's so odd to me that something as natural as having babies can come with so many issues!
Maybe! I don't know!
In my case I would have lost Andrew in 2nd tri, probably with no idea why.
I know my grandma m/c a baby in between every of her 4 kids, so I guess they just didn't know as much then!
I totally agree with this. In fact, one of the MFM's I saw last week said he didn't even know why my OB's office did a cervical check on my during the u/s. I am glad they found something, but it has made me very, very anxious and extremely stressed. I had no cervical issues with my other 2 PG's and was active as could be.
My OB said there are tons of women who have "shorter" cervixes and they never know about it.....and luckily, most deliver full-term babies.
My close friend had a shorter cervix discovered around 20 weeks with her 1st PG. She was put on strict bedrest because she was also having early contractions. They didn't give her any meds, never hospitalized her, etc. and she made it to her 39w1d schedule c/s

Interesting. I was actually just wondering how does anyone know they have a short cervix without prior premature birth or loss? I guess it's just random? Sometimes too much information isn't a great thing either!
A friend delivered a full term baby and the doctors were SHOCKED. She had a c/s and tey said her uterus is super small (I think I got that right) and they absolutely could not believe she made it to term and scared her about having a 2nd.
I agree on being totally surprised how many IC girls I see on here.
I thought the cervical length check was standard, she just did it at the end of my anatomy scan like it was routine.
All I know is I'm sick of being in the unlucky 1-2% on things! I had a missed miscarriage last year at 12 weeks. Everyone told me that once you see a HB you have a teeny tiny chance of m/c. Funny too that back then my stupid cervix didn't want to open up when that happened and now it didn't want to stay shut with a live healthy baby inside.
I need to trade in my faulty cervix after this pg.
