I'm just curious as to what everyone has done as a side job in regards to the business of "home parties" (ex: Tupperware, Silpada, Premier, Pampered Chef, or something to the like). How long did u sell it? Was it good money? Do you currently sell it?
I just thought it may peak interest for those planning on being SAHM and wanting to make some extra cash, and plan their own hours, and get out of the house a little.
I sold Silpada jewelry for 5 years. I never did much with it, just bought a lot of jewelry at my discounted price. That was the main reason I did it to begin with. The extra money I made was a major perk though. I knew some people who did it for a living and made a ton of money with it. I never was one to be like, hey, wanna have a party for me? So I wasnt a great salesmen. But it IS a business with a ton of earning potential.
Anyone else wanna chime in? Happy Friday by the way!
Re: Have you ever sold anything through home parties?
Personally, I'm not a fan of them.
The friends/family I have had that have gotten into this line never contact me or invite me anywhere because they want to hang out, but rather because "let's hang out AND I'll show you a new line of food/tupperware/sex toys/whatevs". Then I feel obilgated to buy something that I didn't want and won't use. Instead, my FB and email are overloaded with "come to my tastefull simple party this weekend" or "we have two new gadgets for you!"
Worse than email forwards.
It's a business where you shake down your friends and family for cash, so I'm not a fan.

Same here. I feel like there is always a friend/family member/co-worker constantly throwing a "party" and I'm obligated to buy something useless & overpriced from Lia Sophia, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc.
I typically find excuses not to go.
What about selling Avon or Mary Kay?
I sell Pampered Chef and I love it. I do make it a point to never talk to friends and family about it, unless I've been asked. I have taken a break since I found out I was pregnant because those totes you have to carry are heavy and it hurts to stand that long. I'm trying to get back into selling it through the catalog shows though.
I do think there's a right way and a wrong way to go about selling stuff like this. I work with a lady who sells Premier Designs Jewelry and she's extremely aggressive with it. My sister was supposed to hold a show for her but the week before, my sister and her husband split. My co-worker was talking about how irresponsible my sister was because she couldn't at least call her back about the party. I was livid. I get you need to keep up with your clients, but at least be respectful.
I sell Thirty-One (which is fairly new in most areas) and Tastefully Simple. I don't ask my family/friends to have parties, but if they ask me to have one I don't object. I started selling Thirty-One in September and in 5 months I've recruited four people to my team, none of which I had asked or beg to join me, but came to me first requesting information. I don't consider myself a great sales person, so I'm not out there pushing my product on people. However, I use Thirty-One products myself (they sell bags, totes, purse & organization items) almost daily so I don't mind selling something to someone that I know they will get use out of.
I also personally own a lot of Pampered Chef, so once again if I find the products to be something useful then I have no problem with it. When I was younger I sold Longaberger and I had to stop because I just couldn't stand to be selling $60+ baskets to people, but that just might have been me.
Plus it's nice to get that direct deposit twice a month for some extra cash. I paid for the babies nursery furniture with my Thirty-One income, so it was like putting out money that I wasn't expecting to get.
Pamperd Chef. I still do it. I love it. Mostly my friends/associates are familiar with the line and I just do direct sales to them rather than parties. I've done pretty well with it.
I did Mary Kay for a short while, it didn't go well. But I think that was mostly due to my leader not the product.
