TTC after 35

Progesterone for abnormal menstruation

Has anyone had to take Progesterone to help regulate their period?

I was on it for 14 days, and I thought that my period should start 72 hours after completion - but it has been 5 days and still no period.

I have not cycled successfully since a  m/c in December, so I'm starting to get really annoyed with my dumb body!

I am calling the OB this afternoon - but I thought I would check to see if anyone else has been on progesterone.

Thanks.

Re: Progesterone for abnormal menstruation

  • Yes, I?m in pretty much the same situation.  I haven?t had a period since middle of November and my doctor just put me on Progesterone in January.  I took ten pills and it?s been 14 days and still no period.  Doctor told me to take another round of progesterone in the middle of February and then if I didn?t start then he wanted to do blood work, but I was told yesterday that I needed to contact an RE (reproductive endocrinologist).  I called the RE yesterday to make an appt, but haven?t heard back from them yet, so that?s my plan.

  • So I was wrong about the 72 hours thing.

Last I was with the Dr. there were so many time frames that I think I messed it up.  I had been bleeding for all but 8 days since my m/c (a total of about 29 days) so they were hoping to stop the bleeding and "jump start" a normal cycle.

I'm just anxious to be trying to conceive again.  I feel like time is slipping away from me!

Thanks for your input - it's nice to know I'm not alone.

  • I've taken it twice and AF showed up 7-14 days afterwards. My RE said it takes a while to start. Hope that helps.
