  • It was a rough, rough day yesterday, so I didn't post an update on the check-in. I failed my 24hr urine again and had more protein in my urine than before. So the UTI definitely didn't skew the results and I for sure have pre-e.

We had a growth u/s of the boys yesterday as well. Baby A was measuring behind at 2lbs 4oz and Baby B was measuring ahead at 2lbs 14oz. Unfortunately, this is a 21.7% weight discordance, so we may be looking at twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) here. Which scares the crap out of me, of course!

The perinatologist came in to talk to me about everything and tried to reassure me that everything would be alright, but I really wasn't in a place to hear it. From he says, he suspects that my 1hr GTT was wrong and I actually have GD on top of everything else. He ordered blood sugar monitoring 7 times a day for a few days to see what my levels are.

Best case, I have GD because if my sugars are out of whack and we can control them, it can reduce the severity of pre-e symptoms and it might explain why one of my precious boys is measuring so much smaller than his brother. And, after we get the sugars under control, I might be able to go home on strict bedrest (yeah, heard that one before, not even entertaining this idea in my head!). And I'll likely be able to carry the boys to at least 34 weeks.

Unfortunately, if my sugars are normal and I don't have GD, we're looking at much more serious issues (like TTTS). It also means that the pre-e is probably more severe and it'll be a miracle if I make it past 32 weeks. I'm sure there are plenty of stories of it happening, but the peri wouldn't hold his breath.

The small bit of good news is that in his experience, my boys have a 95% chance of survival if they're delivered NOW. And if they survive (which is highly likely with tons of NICU time), there's an 80% that they won't suffer long-term complications for it. So I'm hopeful that we'll still get to take home our sons, although it might be after a lengthy NICU stay depending on my health and their (possibly) continued growth discordance.

Sorry about the long update! As for the QOTD, I always thought those jeans diapers were adorable, but way too overpriced. I've considered buying a small pack of them just to take pictures of the boys in them, but I wouldn't use them on a day-to-day basis. There are just too many cheaper alternatives. Plus, I live in Cincy, so I'd much rather by Pampers and support P&G than Huggies.

  • Hello! Hang in there flutepharm. That is alot to deal with. Try and be positive. I know it;s easy to say. Those survival rates that u posted are awesome. My doc told me to shoot for at least 28 weeks. Ill be 27 weeks on Sunday. Ill keep u in my thoughts and prayers.

So today is my birthday! Big 41:) Don't think I'll ever forget this one! lol Hope everyone has a great weekend!

QOTD- Dont think I would have gotten those jean diapers.

  • Flute: So sorry you had such a rough, overwhelming day.  I hope you are able to get some rest today.

QOTD: Yeah, I bought a pack, because I am a sucker for jeans.  They were cute, but felt weird, so I didn't buy anymore.

UPDATES:  Had an appt yesterday that took forever because I decided to almost pass out while on the monitor, so DS's heart rate dropped and they had to come move me around.  Everything leveled out though, so we were ok.  Still have the irritable uterus, and they did pick up a couple of good contractions, but my cervix is still closed, so yay.  BPP went great too.  I go back on Tuesday, and then a growth u/s the following Monday.  Today just taking it easy, as just going to the Dr drains me.

  • Hi all!

flutepharm87 (Jessica): I'm hoping the reason for the discrepancy between the siblings is because of the GD. And thankfully you have that 95% on your side today which will slowly increase as each day passes.

grayweim (Tammy): HAPPY BIRTHDAY girl-  41 years young huh? I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

mrsdjm07 (Heather): Yeah, I can relate to the drained feeling. Just climbing one flight of stairs leaves me breathless (and not in a good way).

    As for moi!

I've been having the weirdest sensation last night (which was why I posted this so late in the am or early in the am depending on how you see it. At any rate, this sensation is kinda like the baby's twitching or having fits... rapid movements, like spasms or something. I hope it's not seizures! I've never experienced this with my others. Anyone else felt this before? And no, it's not hiccups either.

Oh, and the Huggies Jean diaper? Not my style at all! I'm not fond of my little one parading around in just a diaper when he's out on the town (unless it's at the beach). So I would end up putting pants on them but then, what would be the point?

I am currently 21 weeks 2 days pg yey we kept him in 2 more days!! I was able to speak to the specialist and he said that wether I could hold him in or not for 3 more weeks (neonatal says they will not come until 23 weeks) may of may not help because with no fluid his lungs are not developing. so the outcome is not good But I'm going to stick it out because theres still a chance he may be fine. I want to hold my baby boy even if its just a few minutes, I don't think I could live with myself if i choose the suggestion from the Dr. to terminate because I know there is a chance he could live. I'm not crazy right?!? I feel like emotionally I would be better off emotionally knowing I tried.

Not crazy at all! I'd do it! I mean, what do you have to lose? Just staying in one place for two to three weeks but many have done more (I've done six).

You sound like you've already decided to stick it out, so go with that and know we're here for you! Will keep checkin' in.

I am so so sorry and I will pray daily for you guys. You are not crazy. I would do just what you are doing, everything for your baby's chances. I have read a few stories lately where women were told things by doctors and they held on for a miracle and they got it. I believe if there is even a little hope to hold on to I am all for that. Fight for your little one and keep us updated.

  • Welcome new bedrest mommies!  It may not seem like it now but the time does go by pretty quickly!  Hang in there!

UPDATE:  I'm currently 37 weeks 3 days and my Dr. has finally lifted bedrest (I've been on bedrest since 29 weeks)!  YAY!!!!!!  I was put on BP meds 2 weeks ago and my BP has been fantastic since!  My baby's current weight estimate is 6lbs.  I'm still having NSTs/growth ultrasounds to make sure things stay the same.  The Dr. has scheduled an induction date for Feb. 24th because he does not want me going past my due date (March 1st).  This gives me two weeks to go into labor on my own...I'm praying it happens!

  • Name: TSwinson (Tamara)
    Due: June 17, 2011 (22 weeks today!)
    Began bed-rest: Friday, February 4th
Type: Modified bed rest at home
Reason: short cervix; cerclage placed February 10
  • Sorry this is all bold  - my computer won't let me unbold!  Guess its time I join you ladies on here!

    Name: aschleser (Anastasia)
Due: May 25th (Praying we can make it till then!)
    Began bed-rest: February 3rd (in L & D, home since February 5th)
Type: At home - modified bedrest, pelvic rest, no exercise or prolonged time on my feet - BUT I am allowed short trips to the store and things like that. (No mall walking or full on walmart trips!).  This is AT LEAST until March 2 (28 weeks gestation), from their, the Drs and I will decide how I'm doing and whether I should go back to work or not (I'm an RN in a hospital).
Reason: Short cervix (as low as 1.8 with funneling on Feb. 3rd, now about 2.5 cms!), my cervix isn't incompetent, but I was having contractions (I didn't feel them), that caused my cervix to begin to funnel open.  I also have a 2 vessel cord, but other than baby measuring at the 37 percentile, she looks perfect.

Spent 3 days in L & D on Magnesium drip, endomethacin, gentamycin and one other IV antibiotic.  This seemed to stop the contractions and allowed my cervix to close back up.  I'm now home on Nifedipine every 6 hours around the clock, and weekly cervix checks.

  • flutepharm: im hoping that it is GD and praying that the boys are ok.

Cant remember who it was but Happy Birthday!!!!

Jcarleo (sorry about spelling if I got it wrong) Lots of t&p going your way and I hope u get your miracle baby and lungs will develop even without fluid.

aschleser:  Im glad u got to go home. Definietly gives me hope that I will be able to go home soon. I'm also an RN except i work in a NH.

Update: Im off of continuous monitoring so I got to actually sleep last night. Had another u/s this am baby looked good. They did another fFT so waiting for those results. Checked my cervix and even though it kept changing they did get a 2.5 measurement unfortunately still funneling. They have started me on albuterol pills to see if they would help make the contractions go away.

QOTD: I like them but way to expensive to put the LO in everyday.

GL to all and yall are in my T & P

  • To everyone that is holding on and hoping for the best for their unborn LOs I applaud you. I will never forget when I was 25/26 weeks and my Marry Poppins doctor turned into Ms. Serious and pretty much told me I wasn't going much farther in my pregnancy...and here I am at 34 weeks with LO still inside me going strong. Everytime I go into the office she tells me how surprised she is at how well I'm doing...so do all you can, the human body is a wonderous thing. T&Ps with you all! :)

QOTD: I never liked the diaper jeans...and I thought they were way too much $$.

Updates: My blood pressure has been doing well...at least my bottom number has stayed in the 70s/80s and hasn't gone up. My fluid dropped again this week after going back up last week. All I do is drink and pee...drives me nuts! I wish they knew more about the amniotic fluid...it's crazy how they know so much about everything else but when it comes to fluid, it's a guessing game!

Awesome update!  Not that I won't send some labor dust your way, but February 24th is a GREAT birthday!!  (It's mine!) Maybe you could spontaneously go into labor early that morning!  ;o)

Flutepharm: So sorry there wasn't some good news for you.  :o( Glad you've made it to 28 weeks, so every day their odds just get better and better!  We know some folks whose twin boys were born at 28 weeks and they're doing great!  Not that they didn't have a long NICU stay, but still...

QOTD: That commercial was HILARIOUS!!  Thanks for the laugh...I poo in blue!  When I go number two...I look like number one.  Awesome.

I would only buy them and put the babies in them for fun or as a joke.  Never would I spend the money on them as everyday diapers, because like someone already mentioned, they'd be hidden!   Pretty funny, though!

  • flutepharm - I have you in my thoughts and prayers.  As weird as it sounds, I hope it is GD.  I know how much I celebrated making it to 28 weeks.  The odds just get better and better every day and every hour.  Keep up the good work.

jcarleo - I would do exactly the same thing!  You are not crazy.  I think we all give our LO whatever chance we can.  The rest we have to leave up to God or whatever higher power you believe in.  I will be thinking and praying for you too!

    grayweim - Happy Birthday girl!

mrsdjm07 - I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only one to get so tired out with minimal activity.  Showers seem to take so much out of me these days.  I know the almost 6 weeks of bedrest isn't helping and certainly not lugging around this huge twin belly either.

QOTD:  I'm too practical to spend the money but they are cute.

Updates:  Not too much here.  I'm having more contractions but the doctors warned me that as I get farther along I will have those.  I've used the terbutaline twice in the last two days.  I'm trying to lie down more and hydrate even more than before to help.

    Good luck everyone!
