what helps relieve constipation in babies? At first he was gassy and now he keeps trying to push alld ay but nothing comes out...how often are they supposed to have bowel movements? is it bad if they don't have one every day?

It is not bad if they don't go everyday~ or even if they appear to struggle.  Just so the poo isn't hard.  I have used prune juice (baby version) in the past with my older kids, but you should check with your Pedi before you add it to the bottle, just so you don't overload them.

Call your pedi for recommendations. At that age ours recommended karo syrup in water and rectal stimulation with thermometer. The rectal thermometer worked the quickest. At 2 months we started putting 1oz prune juice in one of DS's bottles. We also switched formulas a couple times to no avail.

Tage was having issues pooping awhile ago. The dr said that he could go 2 days without poo and no concern. Once day three hit, our pedi had us give him an ounce of apple juice (100% juice) per feed until he pooped.

Eventually that wore off and wouldn't work on him and now he's on a daily laxative. But the apple juice did work for awhile. Pear juice works as well. She said no more than 6 oz a day for 3 month olds. Now, with the laxative everyday, Tage goes about every other day and that doesn't make him fussy. Once we hit day three though, all bets are off.

Oh, and the thermometer trick worked a couple times for us when the issues first started.

I would definately call your pedi though and ask what they think.
