Hi - I lurk here but rarely post. DD is obsessed with being in the RS. I'm looking into a new carrier and posted a week or so ago about some choices. I'm torn between a few and it comes down to the options for hip carry & front facing out, since all the carriers allow for back and front facing in.
What carry do you use for this age and up?
Re: Which carries for 10 months+?
My favorite carrier is a woven wrap because they're the most versatile, the only carry you can't do with it would be forward facing. But honestly at that age, forward facing is not going to be comfortable for you. Forward facing distributes the weight differently and your shoulders will hurt. At that age and up we do back carries, front carries and hip carries.
That said if you feel like you need to do forward facing, I'd rec. the Catbird Pikkolo.
Are you interested in a buckle carrier only?
My ability to wrap also made me really nervous at first, however once I tried it there was no going back!
It feels 100% more secure than a buckle carry to me, because he is so close. Also, the way the wraps are done there is minimal (more than likely no) risk of LO falling.
Do you have a local babywearing group?
FWIW....My Lil guy is a big guy (over 18lbs at 5 months), and i find that my woven is the most comfortable/versatile carrier for us. Once you learn to wrap one or two carries it because A LOT easier....and you can always practice on a stuffed animal if you're too nervous!
