I'm looking to buy my first wrap. I'm going to go for something around 4.2 meters, being a small size it looks like I can do most wraps from TBW chart.
Right now I'm looking at:
the bbslens on sale at nova naturals (thanks to someone here who suggested it)
a storch (leo or anna) - there are a few on FSOT in my price range (under $100)
Or an ellaroo ?? I like some of the stripes they have.
Any input from you experienced wrappers?
Also - what makes a wrap good for a newborn vs older baby/toddler? Some wraps on FSOT trade look nice and are in my price range, but say "great for a squishy, but now that my baby is older I need to move on" or something to that effect. Are certain wraps better for different weights?
navigating this whole wrapping world is hard - but fun!
Re: first wrap - wwy buy?
oh - my LO is 7.5 months and 17lbs. if that matters!
Hmm... that is interesting about the size. I will keep that in mind. I am a size 4 and I think I am back to a 34C...
I have a moby right now and it's so.fricken.long. or at least that's what I feel like. I just do hug hold and end up wrapping it back around to tie in the front.
What do you think about the 4.2 vs 4.6?
Thanks for the info!
Honestly go with the colorway that you like the best. Any woven wrap at that weight is going to be completely fine. There are some wraps that once you get past 25lbs you may feel like you start getting some digging. The only wrap I would really stay away from being a new wrapper is a Didymos diamond 55%linen. I think as sellers we sometimes put perfect newborn wrap because they're super soft and cozy. I think a Girasol, Storch, Neobuelle, Natibaby and Vats are great beginner wraps. I would buy used like pp said because most likely you'll get it already broken in (soft, floppy, moldable, etc)

I'm about your size and my LO is also 17 lbs. FWIW, I started with a size 5 vat. It has been super easy to learn on and has me totally hooked! I love how soft and thin it is, but super supportive. I also started with the Moby and found it way too long. Once I felt comfortable with the size 5, I purchased a shorter size (size 3). I'm still adjusting to it. I use my size 5 at home and for when he's going to be in the wrap a long time and my size 3 stays in the car for quick trips.
I think it is best to start longer and then go shorter as you get more proficient.
I've also heard good things about bb slens.
(my size 3 is a gira, and I'm glad I didn't start with this wrap. In my little experience, I found the thinner wraps easier to learn with)
I started with a hoppediz. A medium to thicker wrap and didn't have any problems learning with it.
I agree with pp who said to pick a colourway you LOVE. I didn't love my first wrao and I just spent my time trying to find the perfect colour.
I had one storch and it was a little thick for my tastes but excellent quality, workhorse wrap, and it would certainly support any weight toddler.
I have an ellaroo which I love for summer as it's thinner.
My favourite wraps are girasols. Love the colours and find them very supportive.
