NPR: What band(s) are you secretly a fan of?

Ok so we all love 80s music, that's a given...but one of my FB friends just posted a link to "On the Wings of Love" video and I was shocked because that's so far from her style of music.  So...what bands are you secretly still a fan of that you would never admit to your IRL friends? (or post on FB for that matter!)  Mine are Air Supply and Loverboy.  Embarrassed

Re: NPR: What band(s) are you secretly a fan of?

  • I have always been more of an alternative rock/punk kinda girl. But I also have Air Supply on my iPod, in addition to The Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, and The Carpenters!

All of this, plus Barry Manilow.  I also love some John Denver and Peter, Paul and Mary songs because they remind me of my mom. One of my favorite CDs is "Kermit Unpigged" with various Muppets singing duets with famous musicians. On of my favs is Miss Piggy and Ozzy Osborne singing "Born to be Wild".  It came out the same time everyone was doing "Unplugged" albums.   So sad, but true.

  • I love ABBA, but that's not a secret.

I like some Barry Manilow, Monkees, Carpenters...might as well through in Neil Diamond

  • All of the above and then some ....

What I love the best is when you find another secret fan of something and end up driving along in her car on the way to a wedding rehersal, both of you obscenely pregnant, belting out lyrics to "Makin' Love Out of Nothin' at All" at the top of your lungs.

    True story.

  • Wow, so many good 70s bands on people's lists!  Peeper, your post reminds me of that car commercial that's on tv these days where the 2 little kids pull up beside one another and the one kid's parents have been singing some slow oldie song forever and the kid mouths the words "help me" to his friend.  I forget the song they were singing...anyone remember?

  • My "secret" faves are more hard rock/alt/metal bands. The biggie: Metallica.  I really like Metallica.  And Creed, Days of the New, Soundgarden (well Chris Cornell in general) and Alice in Chains.

I'm pretty musically diverse with one exception. Not. A. Fan. Of. Country. Music.

  • Alrighty.  In the day, I was all moody, dark, broody goff, industrial or death metal, and I morphed into kind of an anything goes sort of creature.  My most secret affection probably goes to mister Lyle Lovett, though.

  • I also gravitate toward alt rock/new wave (New Order is my favorite band of all time). But my secret band obsession is Rush. I *love* Rush. There, I said it.

ETA: Wow, I just saw that I'm now a pregnant blonde! Who knew!

    Surprise

And I'll have to confess to having Robyn's tastes. I love Metallica and nearly everything out of Seattle before '94. I mean who doesn't have the hots for Chris Cornell?

  • ABBA, and it's definitely not a secret after our Mamma Mia 40th birthday party.  When I was 13 I was obsessed with Air Supply.

    Yes

ETA:  I forgot to say I like Christopher Cross.  I was driving DH nuts by singing "Sailing" this morning.

  • It is not a secret but most people would be surprised that I am a fan of Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, NWA, and Public Enemy.

What I keep secret is that I like teen pop music (Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake).

  • ABBA - but that's no secret, and my staff has long ago learned that if the abba is turned up loud, just keep walking...And I do love me some BeeGees - and not the Saturday Night stuff either.  Oh and the Scorpions - nothing like them for a roadtrip.
  • Last night DH was like "your liking Metallica is NOT a secret." LOL

I guess my main "secret" enjoyment was that I loved the Spice Girls' first CD. "Tell me what you want, what you really really want!"

  • These are my favorites, however most of my IRL friends know this about me.  Lets just say I am all over the place with music...

Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Alice in Chains, ABBA, Bee Gees, Janice Joplin and Michael Jackson (his music not him).
