Hi Girls-
I have had consistently high amniotic fluid reading since around 30 weeks. I do have GD - diet controlled, with very normal numbers at 1 hour readings (under 70 fasting every day). I also have had kidney stones through the entire pregnancy and had to have stents placed on both sides to keep my ureters open to prevent another infection.
Here is my question: at my latest U/S this past Tuesday, my Peri measured my fluid at 29. I have a scheduled C section at 39 weeks but obviously both of my doctors are concerned about me going into labor early (with everything I have going on I have also been having real contractions since 29 weeks). I asked about moving the C section date up and the Peri didn't seem to think it was necessary at this point. I am being checked again next week. He said if my fluid continues to go up, they will probably move me up to 38 weeks.
What do you girls think? I am being overly paranoid? Or do you think I have reason to be worried about PTL again?
TIA- sorry this is so long, just trying to provide all/most of the facts!
Re: Polyhydraminos - High Amniotic Fluid
Well, I am sure you are aware that PTL is a risk with polyhydramnios. On top of my poly I also have a very large baby and PIH. Even with all of these issues, the OB has been adamant about not talking about induction until 39 weeks. I suspect that your doc is trying to get you to gestate as long as possible, even having the same risk factors.
As a precaution, I got Beta shots at about 32/33 weeks. I also went through NST's twice a week and weekly ultrasounds. I am also on Procardia. The doctor seems to be backing off a little, and I guess it's just a waiting game now.
Anyway, all of that rambling to say that I too felt as if I was the only one seriously worried. I thought that it would be better to birth in a controlled environment (especially since I have a history of fast labors), but end the end I decided that stressing about it was not helping. *shrug*
Good luck and keep us posted!
I had GD and poly with my second pregnancy. I had an amnio scheduled to reduce fluid, but never made it. He was born 35w5d when my water broke.
The GD often means their lungs are slower to develop, so it is best to keep your LO cooking as long as possible. I'd shoot for 38/39 weeks and try to relax ... hard to do when you are gigantic!
One thing I wanted to mention is that if your water breaks on its own, there will be a TON of water. Like Niagra Falls. It gushes out and continues to gush. I was unprepared for that. I soaked three towels before I made it into the car ... maxi pads did NOT cut it.
They'll be mostly concerned with cord prolapse if your water breaks on its own. So if your water breaks, make sure you immediately call your OB and head to the hosp.
GL!
I can understand that...Google has NOT been my friend. LOL
