Double Cart Drama!

I know it's been talked about on here before, but why do people use the double carts inappropriately?!

We're finally to the point of being able to use a double cart, and it is making my life so much easier - when we can find one outside that is. 

Yesterday at Target I drove up and down all of the aisles until I found a cart corral with a double cart in it.  I think they had just picked up the carts, so there really was only one double cart in the whole parking lot.  I parked a few spaces away, and when I ran to get it, there was a woman loading what seemed like probably a 2 year old into it, while her 7-8 year old stood by. 

I kindly explained that I had two infants, and asked if she would consider switching to a regular cart, because a double cart is the only way I can get both of them into the store.  She said that she had 2 kids too, at which point I looked at the 7-8 year old wandering around nearby, and suggested that they probably have more double carts in the store, but again explained that with twin infants, this is really the only way I can get them both into the store. 

Apparently this struck a nerve with her or something because she tore into me about how I must think I'm special because I have twins - and she told me that I and my children were going to have to realize that he world doesn't revolve around us. 

This was all I could do:

That is awful!  I swear for as rude as people are about things like this I'm surprised I don't go around slapping people for being stupid.

I know right?!  I wish I had some sort of witty, biting comeback, but I was honestly so stunned, that I think I may be just stared at her open mouthed, before muttering something like "ooook" and walking away.  LOL

It was the kind that sort of has the trailer up front, where they sit facing forward, side by side, with a 3 point harness.  I *guess* the older boy could have fit into it if he tried really hard, but it wouldn't have been very comfortable.  And really, shouldn't he just have to suck it up and walk at that age?

a friend of mine calls our local grocery store when she is on her way over to have them bring out one of the big carts for her (she has twins +1) and they do it happily.  I go to that same store and lukily have not had to call them - i usually find one when i'm parking... but many stores will accomodate.

 also- when i emailed the store once to complain that their only double cart was broken and i would have to start shopping elsewhere - a couple weeks later they had about 5 new carts that i could use - and they called to tell me - so they DO respond to moms who ask -- knowing it's good business for them b/c there are so many moms in your situation.

target on the other hand, wasn't as responsive to me when i emailed them about the problems - so i don't buy my groceries there just to spite them.

I never thought of that of doing that!  I ended up having to go home and go back without the girls later on.  Luckily we were on our way home from somewhere else, and hadn't made a special trip out.

I don't even know what a double cart is ... I don't know if I've ever seen one. I make my husband come with me for big shopping trips. He pushes the boys in our double stroller and I take the shopping cart. We look like a circus sideshow ...

Seriously though -- what a b!tch. Sometimes I can come up with something quick and witty but other times my only comeback is "well fvck you too!" Very mature I know ... I haven't done that since having the babies though!

Wow.  What the hell is wrong with people?  I can't believe that chick.  I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.  I hope the karma bus comes around for her soon (without affecting her little ones, that is).

Wow, what a beyotch.  After I walked away, I probably would have thought of retorting "Well, and your older kid is going to have to learn to walk lest he become a fat beast like his mother", assuming, however, that the mother is a fat beast. 

I saw someone using a double cart for one kid at my local grocery store the other day (I was solo) and it made me so irritated because there's going to come a point where I'll need one of those carts and it'll probably be in use by someone with one child who is capable of walking.

  What a miserable human being.  Her life must suck pretty hard to want to get all fist-to-cuffs over a grocery cart. Good for you for walking away & being the bigger person.
