Switching to Whole Milk

Did anyone have any issues with switching their LO's over to whole milk?  DD enjoys the taste of WM but is having constipation issues... which I read is pretty common.  If this happened to you, what did you do to combat?  I'm ramping up her vegetable intake but could use any tips people have to offer.  TIA!

Re: Switching to Whole Milk

  • Ella didn't have any issues, but you might want to give Avery some diluted juice once a day to help w/ teh constipation.

Remember too - that all dairy counts toward her total - so yogurt, cheese, etc. all should be included when you are trying to figure how much milk she needs.

  • John has a few strained #2's.  He has always loved sweet potato's and I will still cute cubes of sweet potato's steam them and then sprinkle with cinamon.  He has them every day and they are high in fiber and I think they really help keep in regular.

Can I ask about your sweet potato cubes?  How long do you steam them for?  Do you just refrigerate or freeze the remainder for the next day or are you steaming them everyday?

My DS loves sweet potatoes and I made them into "fries" for him but he will take a bite or two of the fry and then take a bite of the next one.  I think cubes would be more successful.  :)

  • We were given the Beaba Baby cook as a gift and making the cubes is the only thing I still use it for.  I would say they steam for about 15 minutes and then I usually just throw them in a tupperware container and into the fridge.  I usually use a ramekin to heat them up, at 50% power for 10 secons in the microwave and then sprinkle with cinnamon.  It's weird, if I don't do the microwave at 50% after about 2 seconds I hear this poping sound and the edges of some of them turn black.

Usually one large potato will last for 5 days, they aren't very big cubes, just large enough to fit into his hands.  Although he loves to grab 3 or 4 and shove them in his mouth.

  • we  cut out milk and gave her oj with calcium and vit D (oj never bothered her) and she loves broccoli. Drinking milk is not terribly important - some countries don't even have milk in their diet. DD had an allergy she outgrew, so we made sure she got calcium other ways. Vit D in milk is added, not  natural, so we supplement that, and fats can be found in other healthier options, like avocado or coconut oil.
