Parenting after 35

Do you dress your child in your image?

I don't mean like twinsies, but is your fashion sense apparent in how LO dresses.

I can say, in all honesty, that Mikey's wardrobe is much more colorful than my and DH's black/gray-heavy style, but I can't help dressing him in Levi's and Chucks on occasion - just like me.

I also love me some Adidas, so maybe I need to get him some of those now that I've seen how cute they look on Simon.

Re: Do you dress your child in your image?

  • They don't make enough black baby clothes for me to dress Ada like myself. In fact, I have to make a very concerted effort to wer colorful - apparently color makes me appear cheerful or something. Anyway, I dress Ada in ruffles, tutus, stripped tights, bright colors, silly patterns...I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts!! As a baby she can carry off absolutely anything!

  • I dress her in what her grandparents send me, mostly.  Like you guys, I dress mostly in black and gray, though I have noticed I default to the a t-shirt and jeans on her, much like on me.  It's just in brighter colors.

  • Colorwise I am incorporating darker clothes into her wardrobe (like me). But when she was younger she wore a lot of pink and yellow, which I rarely wear if ever.

  • I've never really thought about it until now. I guess I do. It's all about comfort. I rarely dress the boy up. He's usually wearing sweat pants/shirts, jeans and onesies. Me too, except for the onesies :)

  • No, my kid wears way too much pink to dress anything like me. I'm a gray/blue/black wearer and she loves the brightest clothing possible.

  • Nope - she has much more color!  And leggings.
  • DH loves if he and DS are dressed similar. I do think I dress DH in our style. I like to think of it as American Classic. Jeans and sweaters for right now. I buy a lot of baby Ralph Lauren at TJ Maxx. I can't wait to get him a pair of Converse and until he fits in Crew Cuts. But he has his share of skull and crossbone stuff too.

When we leave the house we are both dressed in outfits, no sweats or sleepers.

    EWWWW. Sooooo creeeeepy!

No, I dress M much better than I dress myself. Embarrassed That is one of my "improvement areas" from New Years. I ditched the t-shirts, upgraded my jeans - but I am still usually barefoot when I am at home. That is one thing I do dress her like me - shoes. We are usually barefoot or in tennis shoes. So I guess, I am beginning to dress a little more like her - hehehe - but with less leggings and no onesies.

  • DH would love for DS to be dressed like him. Mr. Preppy. Little Polos.

BUT... Mama likes to dress Aaron in the Gap Junk Food tees (Superman, Star Wars) and jeans.  Or, track pants and sweatshirts.  Aaron is dressed a little trendy when I choose his outfit. I guess it's sort of how I like to dress.

Hahaha remember that guy on American Idol who rocked his onesie?  Big Smile  Anyway I dress S in a onesie every day in the winter because I don't want his shirts riding up and making him cold.

  • DH loves when I dress DS up, but usually he is just in jeans and cute onesies.  DH and I are both jeans and T shirt people, so I figure DS will be like that, too. (although I envision him being a preppy child when he gets school aged)

  • I absolutely do -- on the very rare occasion that I buy her clothes.  I tend to pick out sweater dresses, cute jeans -- Baby Gap style stuff in styles that I would wear if I was thinner.  But 98% of the time, she wears whatever my BFF's daughter did when she was Keira's age.  Some of the clothes I would NEVER have bought, too loud and colorful.  But they look so cute on Keira!
  • Our nanny sometimes dresses Matt in a similar outfit as DH was wearing that day.  So if DH was wearing a white oxford and chinos with a green sweater Matt will be wearing that when we get home.  It is very cute!

The clothes I buy for Matt are really similar - even in brand (Vineyard Vines, Ralph Lauren, Levis) but I am trying to branch out and let him have fun clothes as well.

I did dress him in very babyish clothes when he was younger.

  • She mostly wears the many clothes I got from a good friend whose daughter has outgrown the stuff, or the clothes people gave her. I don't really have to buy anything for her.
