At 6 weeks my cervix measured 2.8cm so they planned another ultrasound for 15 weeks, which will be in 3 weeks. However this afternoon I had a very small amount of red blood. Of course I called the Dr right away and they said if I have any more that I should call and they will get me the rhogam shot since I have a neg blood type. So my question is, can you have bleeding if your cervix is shortening, or is that typically something that happens without symptoms?
Re: Another short cervix question!
Hello there. I have cervical insufficiency.
To my knowledge, the cervix does not bleed when shortens but perhaps there may be something else going on there? (And hopefully nothing serious... I did have bleeding with my first pregnancy in the beginning. I ended up passing a clot which my ob told me was perhaps old blood.
What does your doctor think it is? And what is rhogam and what is it used for?
The rhogam shot is given to you if you have a negative blood type, I'm not sure on all the details, but something about if the baby has a positive blood type and I'm negative my body can try to reject the babies blood. The blood type doesn't have anything to do with my short cervix, it just could be a cause for the bleeding. I'm just so paranoid that my cervix is shortening more! 3 weeks feels like forever away to see if it's stayed the same or shortened more!
even people with severe IC (my case) wont see the cervicx start to shorten until after 15 weeks. and 95% of the time it happens "without symtoms", i was told the only "sign" to look for was a change in CM...and that's what i had. i have a cerclage in this pregnancy since 22 weeks and my cervix has been constantly changing up and down up and down. there is no blood associated cause it's just a "muscle weakening". if there was blood, in my case it would be from my cerclage stitch tearing out of the muscle.
i did have spotting throughout my first tri though. again...totally unrelated to the cervix.
sorry I didn't realize you were 12 weeks - I have read that IC strikes 16-24 weeks typically, so it seems early. Maybe it's just normal 1st tri spotting like pp suggested. I'm not even sure what to think!
I did not have any symptoms of my shortening until way late in the game.
I lost a previous pregnancy due to incompetent cervix and with this pregnancy had cervical checks every other week from 16-24 weeks. At each appt they would ask if I've had any bleeding. So, I'm guessing that could be related to incompetent cervix and/or preterm labor?
