The psychiatrist office finally called me, but didn't have an opening until March 15th. I'm on the priority cancellation list, blah blah. So I went to my GP this morning.
He gave me some samples for Lexapro to try. We'll see how they work side effect wise & go from there. He also put me on STD (short term disability) until March 1st, & depending on how I'm doing @ that time I may continue for a few more weeks.
STD = 70% of my usual income, so the income hit isn't great, but @ least DH is working PT now & honestly I need some leave time. I'm sure not having to deal with the absolute dread I feel every morning before work & the all day demoralization will help improve my mood.
Re: Went to the doc today (f/u to ppd post)
i'm so glad you're taking charge of the situation. just a few things about lexapro... my OB perscribed it and told me NOTHING about it. it wasn't until weeks later when i finally got in with a psychiatrist that i was told about it. basically, it takes awhile to work-- i think 3 weeks before it is 100% efficienty in your body-- and stopping it abruptly is a very very bad idea. you have to wean yourself off of it.
with that in mind, i had absolutely no issues while i was on it, and no issues weaning off of it.
good luck hun.
Oh, I am.
Booking a haircut & massage stat!
I am glad you have a start at least. I don't know if you have been on depression meds before but in case you haven't, it is really important to pay attention to how you feel. I was on one that I had a really rough reaction to, I just cried all the time, then I gained I think 20 lbs. in a month on another, and finally I was put on the lowest dose of Welbutrin and felt the edge come off within a week.
I hope you start to feel better quickly and can be seen before 3/15. The lack of work will also hopefully help. Big hugs!!!
Thanks for the info. The doc did say it may take a few weeks to work, which I expected since I think most of the antidepressants work that way. He's willing to extend my STD if needed too.
I've been on Lexapro. It was nice to find out three months later that it was the reason for my complete inability to O.It really, really sucked.
Also our new insurance doesn't cover it. They require a step program and that all the cheaper drugs do not work at all or cause horrendous side effects before going to it. Just an FYI. We've had a really hard time with having to keep changing drugs and I don't want you to have to deal with that. You might want to call your insurance before you get started.
Sorry to dump all that on you, but it really sucked to have to change drugs mid stream. I am so glad you took this step to get help and I hope you are able to really use the time off to take care of yourself.
THIS, I was on prestiq that is a faster acting anti depressent and it still take at least 2 weeks to start working, 6 weeks to be FULLY in your system and start working.
I know a LOT of momma whose babies had AR and allergies and ended up being diagnosed with PPD/PPA. Me being one of them.
Hang in there, you WILL get through this.
