How long does your daycare allow your child to be there on a daily basis? Any restrictions? Ours is open 6am-6pm but noted in their handbook that they wouldnt really want a child to be there more than 10 hours in a day.
Clark gets dropped off at 645am and is picked up at approx 345pm (sometimes earlier depending on when DH is out of school) but with him possibly coaching now after school I would be picking DS up at 445pm making it close to the 10 hour mark. I feel like this is normal hours for a child to be at daycare - thoughts?
Re: Daycare Hours - How long is too long?
That's an odd thing for your day care to have a preference on. If it's a cost issue and they're concerned about it, they should charge by the hour.
My day care is open 6:30a to 6p, and I could have Ella there the whole time if I wanted. All we have to do it give them a ballpark of what the hours will normally be like so they can plan for teachers.
I know it wont be an issue for him to be there longer if need be but I need to look at the handbook again. I kinda wonder if it's an Indiana state law or something that they dont want kids at daycare longer than 10 hours at a time. We dont get charged overtime fees unless he is there past 6pm which wont be an issue. Kinda just wondered if 645am till 445pm is a normal time frame for kids to be at daycare as far as how long they are there.
Mads is there everyday from 7:50 to anywhere from 4:30 to 6.
If you are comfortable with it, then I'd say it's okay.
I can't possible imagine that it's a state law, or a requirement for licensing. What about parents that work 10+-hour shifts?
Ella is dropped off at 7 and is picked up at 5:20, FWIW. That's just over 10 hours. There are some kids in her room that are there before us, and get picked up after us.
Just sucks that I wouldnt be able to leave much earlier than 415/430pm in order to pick him up but its just all around easier for DH to take him in the morning to DC even if it's pretty early.
I'll have to look at the 10 hour line again in the handbook. Sounds like Ella is at daycare the same amount of time Clark is. Thanks Lauren for the info
Just got info from my DC:
The state requires that kids cant be at a liscened daycare more than 10 hours per day. If it's once in awhile its okay but some parents have tried to leave their kids open to close - everyday
Our daycare doesn't say anything about a 10 hour limit. They are open 6-6. I work 12 hour shifts and don't get off till well after they close, so I drop off and DH picks up.
Most days she is there about 6:30-4:30.
Is it kids of a certain age, or all kids? Interesting.
I'm really surprised by that. I wonder if she has proof of it she's saying it for her convenience. Anyone know?
I'm trying to find info online. She has been liscensed for several years and is actually a daycare and preschool so I'm sure she knows her stuff. It's actually kind of neat how she has her set up. She use to do daycare out of her home but that got to be too much so she actually owns a home where she only does the daycare and preschool out of and is liscensed by the state so she gets regulated and they are also on the food program as well for meals.
That is interesting. Maybe it's old information but I am 100% positive that that is not a current Indiana licensing regulation for a 'center'. I worked at a center as a supervisor for almost 9 years until I quit to stay home with the babies, and am pretty well versed on the state licensing and NAEYC regs. Our center was open 6:30-6 and we had kids there every day from 6:30-6:15 (and they were paying late fees for being late). I wouldn't worry about it, or ask her about proof if you are really concerned. Let me know if you have more questions!
I'm thinking she is probably considered an in home daycare provider but she is liscensed by the state. It's not an actual "center." She owns a home that she only does daycare out of. I wasnt really concerned about the 10 hour rule just was curious how long kids that go to daycare normally spend there (how others work it out).
Cool. Even still, I would be surprised if there was actually a regulation that limits the amount of time a child can be in care.
Anyway, lots and lots of kids at my old center were there for 9-11 hours. I would say the average child got dropped off around 7:30 and picked up around 5:30.
Good to know....thanks!
