Hi all, I've never posted here before but my husband and I are starting to think about having a baby. I have been on citalopram 20 mg/day (celexa) for 2 1/2 years after a major breakdown. My physician changed my prescription to Wellbutrin 150 mg/day and told me it is a safer option. I'm titrating off the citalopram (tried to cold turkey it-HELL) while on the wellbutrin now.
I guess I'm just looking to see what other people's physician's have told them?
Who has taken antidepressants (particularly Wellbutrin) during pregnancy and if there have been any issues/problems with your baby?
Also, does anyone know what class of drug wellbutrin is? My physician told me class B, but I've read class B and class C on the internet...whew, thanks...
And I just want to say that reading some of these posts is really encouraging, even for someone that doesn't have postpartum, but suffers depression and anxiety anyway. Hope everyone is well.
Re: Wellbutrin and pregnancy
I used this as a resource https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antidepressants/DN00007 My dr put me on zoloft.
I was on wellbutrin for PPD before I was pregnant, then got off a year before I got pregnant. Now pregnant I'm on zoloft.

The FDA is in the process of changing the drug categories because they are confusing and don't tell the whole story. B means that the animal studies have been reassuring but there is little to any info in human. We know more about some "D" drugs, which may sound worse, but in fact, the benefits may outweigh the risks in some cases. Talk to you healthcare providers and check out otispregnancy.org for current and free info. They can also link you to free telephone counseling around the country and Canada.
