Chicken Liver

My LOs iron levels were checked today and I was told they were alittle low and try giving her chicken liver to raise her iron levels! She is completely off of formula now so she is not getting the iron from that. Any advice on how to make the liver so LO will eat it? Or any other suggestions to raise her iron level would be helpful !!  TIA!!

Re: Chicken Liver

  • I actually love chopped liver.  Here is my grandmother's recipe:

    1 lb livers

    1 onion

    2 hard boiled eggs

Bake chicken livers about 15 minutes on 400, or until they're done. (you can also sautee them)

You can leave the onions raw, or sautee them.

Using a food processor (or one of those wire meshy-type things that is kind of like a grater (damn, I don't know what it's called!)), coarsely chop the livers, then add the onions and eggs, pulsing until they've made a pate.

Salt and pepper to taste, and chill.

Eat with crackers, or maybe num-nums or something like that...YUM!

  • Egg yolks, red meat, spinach, beans, lentils, and broccoli are all rich in iron and safe for LO to eat.  If she isn't on vitamin drops you can get those at the pharmacy.  They have lots of iron.
