Beta #4 in (vent)

It went from 602 to 1064 - 77% increase.  Is this good?  Bad?  Somewhere in the middle?  Who knows?  My RE doesn't want to speculate.  Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to be even this far along, and I am trying to be optimistic here, but its been so hard.

Due to my mediocre beta rises, the doc wants me to come in for an u/s on Thursday, but I can't because I will be out of town for work.  That means 6 more days of hell for me till Monday.  I would skip the work meeting, but I have already missed so much stuff due to IF-related appointments and treatments that I feel this would not be in my best interest, especially if we have to do the DE route.

I asked if I could come in on Saturday, but I just learned today that my main RE is the doc who will be in this weekend, but he doesn't do u/s on pregnant people on Saturdays or Sundays.  Its office policy (even through the other RE did an u/s for me last Sunday).   This past year I have been in for follie checks countless times, and its no big deal, but now that I am descending further into the depths of beta hell, he can't make an exception?  I mean, this is my fourth rodeo at this clinic, not even including the IUI's, and I have never EVER asked anyone to go above and beyond prior to this.  My RE knows that this is our LAST CHANCE to have a bio-baby, and he knows about all the crap we have been through up until this point.  I have been treated better at the deli counter at my local grocery store than I have at this clinic.

Thanks to everyone for your T&P's.  I hope it is still okay to post this here and I apologize if I am offending anyone.  I just want things to get better, not just for me, but for all of us.

  • I'm sorry, I'm confused.  I just plugged in your dates and numbers into the doubling times calculator on beta base and got all good results.  You should be doubling between 48-72 hours and all of yours were within that range.  Why does your RE seem to think there's anything wrong?  I think, just from seeing what others have said on here about doubling times, that everything looks fine.  But I'm a little out of it, so please point out if I'm missing something.  Good luck!

  • I know that some people say they want to see it double every 48, but that other people say it doesn't have to double in that exact amount of time.  Since your RE seems unsure of things, I would think they would let you come in over the weekend to have the u/s to see where things stand.  That is just crap that they won't.

I am sorry you are going through all of this.  Try to stay positive in the meantime - I know that's next to impossible - even if you have to wait until Monday.  (((hugs)))

  • I don't know how to copy and paste text from other posts, but Sunshine - you are right.  Every freaking thing I can find on beta doubling says that my numbers should be okay.  When I question my RE's about it, they tell me that they discourage patients from using the internet as a source of information, and that THEY have the most up-to-date info available.  Its like they get insulted when I question them on it.  One RE mentioned some sort of article that was recently in the New England Journal of Medicine that showed doubling rates must be at least 53% to meet the "minimum standard" of pregnancy, but my rates have been between 70-80% this whole time. So why all the doom and gloom? I don't know why I can't get a straight answer.

  • I agree with pp, why does your RE think there's anything wrong? Even if they aren't the hugest rises your betas have been going up consistently within the normal range. I'm sorry that they are not cooperating with your schedule for an u/s. That's really unfair.

  • Okay, I was wondering if I was missing something!  Everything really sounds fine, I wouldn't take Dr. Doom's opinion too strongly if I were you.  I would definitely wait until Monday for your u/s since things seem to be good and that will let you avoid having to take a day off plus let you be a little farther along for your u/s.  I hope you can get out of your clinic soon b/c they don't seem too cooperative with you.  I understand wanting to discourage too much use of Dr. Google, but seriously, everything seems fine!  Hope everything continues to go well for you and you have a good u/s on Monday!!  :)

  • Hey I repplied to u over on PAIF, but I wanted to add...

My RE was the opposite of yours.  My betas slowed between 2 and 3.  They told me the numbers were TOTALLY fine, and only look for a 60% rise.  Urs aren't even slowing, the seem to be picking up speed.

I know they are cautious, but u/s ruled out etopic...so what's with the debbie downers over there?

  • Honestly it sounds promising to me. An u/s is the best way to get your answer, though. We're here for you...we'll get you through to Monday. I would be pissed at the RE for not making an exception.......Fingers still crossed for you!

  • Your numbers look great to me, quite within range. Try not to stress over it I know easier said than done. But hoping that all looks good at your u/s. I hope this is it so you won't have to return to your downer RE clinic! GL!
  • I think all of your betas have shown a good rise!  Good luck sweetie!

I am so sorry your in beta hell and that the main RE is being a giant a$$!
