Can anyone else not handle metformin? (A little TMI)

I've been on Met for about 6 weeks now and I decided yesterday to stop taking it. I've been nauseous and having diarrhea for probably 5 weeks of the 6 :(  I don't understand since I was fine with it when we were TTC Jake.  I've been doing low carb/high protein and still it's killing me.  I put a call into my RE to talk about my options, but I'm not sure what he'll say.  Maybe just going straight to Follistim? UGH- anyone else?

  • I have only ever had nausea with it when I changed dosages. I have had some diarrhea with it however I regulated after a couple of months. I still have some "issues" from time to time with diarrhea but not as much as I used to. Some people's bodies can't handle it.

  • I never tolerated the regular release, I switched to the XR and never looked back.

  • Yes it is still tough on my stomach. For Maddy I was on 2000mg, I couldn't even handle that this time. I am now only on 1500mg, and I still have issues. Are you on Extended release?

  • Ditto the others re the extended release.  I'm the opposite.  My OB put me on ER and I felt awful until I switched back to regular.  Before stopping entirely I'd try the other version of whatever you're on.
  • I did much better on the XR too.

  • I also had this problem! The doctor then switched me to a form of the medication called Fortamet, Its easier on the stomach. After I was able to take that I switched to extended release metformin because it was much cheaper! I adjusted well at that point. I just cannot ever forget to take it, because if I miss a day i have the worst belly ache ever!

    Good luck!
