Symptoms of pinkeye

Justin is at school today and they just called to tell me that since about mid-morning, he's had sort of a "film" over his eyes and they are sort of goopy.  The teacher told me that while they haven't had any confirmed cases of pinkeye in his classroom, there have been others in other classrooms at the school.

It's been a while since we've had it in our house.  What are the usual symptoms of pinkeye?  I was thinking more along the lines of redness and itching, not necessarily "filminess", which is how she described it.  Does pinkeye always warrant a trip to the pedi?

Pinkeye does require a trip to the pedi unless your doc is willing to call something in without Justin being seen.  We are just getting over pinkeye at our house and it was red, swollen, and runny/watery eyes.  In the morning there were crusties.  I hope it's not pinkeye!

redness, a "headache" like pain right behind the eyes, green stuff, and fuzzy vision... ah yes, I remember this crap all too well (Chris and I had it in May)

I had it last year and it started as a goopiness.  By the next morning it was red and painful.
