Parenting after 35

P.G.&A.M.

Thanks for your response on the FTT. It's good to hear that this may help him. My son is a bit different since he does not (or did not) have a problem eating.  He out ate my older two boys at every meal (literally first & last man sitting to eat, & eat, & eat), but does not gain weight (well, that was until he started the boost supplement, which is a meal replacer & stopped eating).  It's just frustrating right now.  They think he burns calories too fast, so they want to trick his body to eat more food on top of what he already will take in.  Sounds like it might work then.

  • Holy smokes. Have they checked other things like his thyroid (blood draw), fat absorption (stool sample), ect... since he's eating but not gaining? I know there's also a FTT board on babycenter.com that might be helpful.

  • Yup!  The only testing he has not done is stool testing since it seems normal.  Ugh. So much fun!  How quickly does the stimulant start to work?  We started the medicine on Sunday night & yesterday he started to eat an obscene amount of food again ; ) So hoping this works!!!! Thanks for your advice!

  • It worked quickly for us- with in a day or 2 of starting the medication he started eating. His volume of eating did seem to taper off a bit in a few weeks of being on the periactin, but it was still better than it had been before the medication.
