Would/was the ID consent option (or whatever the particular cryobank calls it) be a deal breaker for you? I really wanted to choose a donor who was open to being contacted but I there are only a few donors that fit our blood type and physical characteristics. I'm really wishing I could pick form the CMV+ donors so that there would be more options
Re: quick donor question
ours is anonymous
our criteria were more important than id consent in all honesty

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

What about height? lol
DH isn't a giant but he's a over 6'. Would you go with a donor 4 or 5 inches shorter? (and yes, I realize I'm getting ridiculous but I want it all!)
Me - DX Hashimoto's Disease, Hypothyroid, Rheumatoid Arthritis
DH - DX Azoospermia - Sertoli Cell Syndrome
DS-IUI #1-4 BFN IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
My DH is 6'2", we were unwilling to use a donor that was shorter than 6'. My DH had a few things he really wanted. Eye color and height were the most important. Ultimately we used the photo matching service and our donor was the 3rd best match at CA Cryo to DH physically meeting all our criteria (height, eye color, hair color, ethnicity and CMV status), plus looking similar to him in looks and bone structure.

well, i'm really not right person to ask, we really only 1 donor that fit our ethnicity (very imp to us) and thankfully he is right height, eye color and hair color
i would weigh all your criteria and decide most imp traits and go with that

ID consent wasn't that important to us, so I guess I'd say that our criteria was more important.
As for height, our donor is pretty tall (6'1"), but my husband is only about 5'9". I'm 4'11". I was worried about that, but then I thought about the fact that my brother and father are relatively tall. When it comes to DS, you can always invent a distant relative that has whatever gene pops up with the donor for those that you aren't sharing the DS information with.
De-lurking here. Open ID was not a factor for me. Mainly because Open ID donors can still say no. He might agree to meet the first 5 children born, but what if yours is the 15th. He may not be so interested by then. I would rather my child grow up knowing it's not an option than to think there would be and have to take it away. Anonymous means they never have to "lose" anything.
After talking to my RE, I removed blood type from my consideration set as well. I am O- so I thought I would need to choose an O- donor, but my RE said no big deal as long as they know up front. I ended up choosing an A+ donor.
Physical characteristics were my top consideration set, followed by personality traits. I am all math/science/analytical so I wanted a donor with some artistic or musical intersets.
Thanks ladies. I think I'm just trying too hard to find DH. And it's almost like he's being less picky than I am.
In theory we could pick someone that sounds like they look like me since my major physical traits are all dominant and his are recessive anyway :P
the bank we are all looking at it, it is strictly, all open id. I just feel like, we want the option to be there, if the child wants to contact- they have the option. They may not even want to, but atleast the option is there. The bank we are using, says that the child can contact at 18. It could be via letter, a call, or visit, or whatever, you could even exchange a picture through the company. But the child has to initiate the contact, and the donor has agreed to one contact. they do not have to have a relationship. We just want there to be an option for them if they want to pursue it.
as fa as our donor- ethnicity was important too. Husband is half-asian. But DH is 5'9... The donor we have selected is 6'2... We don't care about height.
