Wipes hurting LO??

Yesterday we were over the IL's and crazy MIL asked DH if she could use "these wipes" on DD. He said yes, I looked from far back and it was a bluish package that just said "soft and gentle".

DD screamed her head off the whole time DH wiped her butt, she had pooped so it took a few wipes.

MIL says she was screaming b/c she was on the "cold" diaper changer (one of those travel ones that have the vinyl type material). I told her that is not the case, we change her in the PNP that has the same material and on our leather ottomans all the time.

I told DH we are bringing our Huggies Natural Care to her b/c she is not using those wipes on her anymore. DH wouldn't ask her what kind they were. But just glancing I could tell they were from the $1 store (not Dollar General, the $1 store) and I think they were adult wet wipes...not baby. Now I am not knocking anyone that buys from the $1 store, so please do not take this as an insult. But I am very leary of things that are bought at $1 stores.

**Edit - the reason why I think it is from the $1 store is because MIL buys everything from there, household products, gifts, etc. And I am mainly concerned b/c of the reports I read of items being sold there not being inspected.

Anyways, would wipes have that kind of affect right away on DD? Her butt was red for about 2 changings then it looked fine. She never screamed with any other changes that day.

i don't know for sure, but i would think it's plausable that the wipes caused an irritation, especially if they were adult wipes. poor thing, i'm glad she's doing better now.

Some wipes for adults contain alcohol - so that would just cause a slight burning sensation. Bring your own wipes next time :)

My guess would be that if they were adult wipes, they probably contained some alcohol, which could definately be painful on a delicate tushy.
